My mother received really excellent end-of-life care at Westcombe Park Care Home. All the staff were very kind and caring and gave every support to my mother and also to all the family when we visited. We would highly recommend this home, as well as all the staff, especially the excellent manager.

I arrived on 4/6/25. I was walking only with the assistance of a frame and therefore moving with difficulty. I shall leave on 20/7/25 walking using only a walking stick and ask to walk easily and competently. My physio treatment has in particularly helped me but I have also profited greatly of the beautiful
grounds of the care home which I have been able to use consistently for exercise. I have been treated with great confidence and kindness.

The Arkley Care Home

from R C (Resident) published on 12 August 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

1. First of all - credit where it's due, the carers are first class, well groomed, friendly, polite and always ready to help. The same can be said of cleaning and laundry staff.
2. However, I have found some clinical support on occasion to be deficient, for example, it took the clinical department
3 months to get an appointment with a local dentist (cannot use public transport), and a similar occurrence occurred in finding a chiropodist.
3. I am all too well aware of budgetary constraints, I find menus to be overweight in carbohydrates (e.g. mashed potato with beef and onion pie, large helpings of flavourless pasta with too little sauce, roast potatoes with mashed!). Meat is usually overcooked and grey in colour. Salads need improvement, lettuce should be shredded, not in long cm-wide strips, cucumber should be sliced (also peppers), not in large chunks. A little amount of vinaigrette would add much flavour and mouthfeel.
4. For a permanent residence, I would probably need a larger room with space for a filing cabinet. Being self funded, rather than reliant upon a company/public service pension, involves a volume of paperwork.
Should you so wish, I would be happy to discuss any of the points raised in person or on the telephone.

My brother was placed in the care of staff at Manor Court and despite a diagnosis of parkinson was treated appallingly, often left alone to falls and injury and on one occasion found alone in the car park wondering! the facilities and food are extremely basic as was his single room with no shower or
toilet facility, not the pictures shown on web site my brother often put to bed unwashed or undressed personal effects were stolen by the staff entrusted with my brothers welfare a gold holy bracelet that can never be replaced a gift from our late parents was personally removed and replaced with a metal one as well as his mobile being stolen from his room - after suffering several falls resulting in injury lack of care and my brother telling me that a male carer had slapped him it was necessary to remove my brother from any further harm it also took two months to refund money held in account despite giving over details on the day my brother was removed do not leave your loved ones here !!!

It would be good if soap and shower gel were provided bu the home for the residents, as we the relatives are not there 24/7 and it is easy for us to miss out when visiting. This should be part of hygiene essentials for the home to provide as the staff can spot immediately and replnish. Considering also
the high monthly cost and lack of shops nearby. Hotels provide soap and shower for guests. Why not care homes.

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My mother has been living at Westcombe Park for nearly three months and I've been consistently impressed by the care and attention she's received. She struggles with confusion and depression and isn't always the easiest, but the nurses, carers and managers show exceptional patience, professionalism,
and compassion in their approach.
They take time to understand her needs, and never lose their calm or empathy - it's clear that they genuinely care about my mother's well-being. The home is clean, well-maintained, and welcoming. It's a huge relief to know that she's in safe and capable hands. I would highly recommend this home.

Review of

Elmstead Care Home

from Hayley J (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum was at Elmstead since October 2024, I genuinely could not have asked for a better place for her. All of the staff, no matter their role, have been kind, supportive and respectful of mum all whilst allowing her to be herself and flourish (which is hard with progressing dementia). Without exception,
everyone treated my mum as if she were their family member. I just wished she'd had longer there. I was very wary of mum joining a home permanently, but I really needn't have worried. The home manager and the team are truly amazing.

This home rates second to none. The quality of care my dad got was five-star. When you walk into the home, a warm, friendly welcome is given. My Dad loved it here. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to put their loved one into a care home.

Red Court Care Home

from T B (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Mum has been at Red Court for 18 months now. She was adamant she never wanted to end up in a care home but her detierating health meant she needed the nursing care. I have found all the staff to be so helpful, caring and professional. They always greet me with a smile and most by my name. The carers
and nursing staff have always listened to her needs and my questions and shown empathy. Sadly Mum passed away but I would like to thank all the staff for their care and support.

This is an excellent care home. The staff really get to know the personalities of all the residents, which enables a good rapport. They also get to know the relatives and always provide a warm welcome. This makes for a very friendly atmosphere and it's always a pleasure to visit. The care provided
is second to none and regular updates are always provided. It was a very sad/emotional day when the time came for a move to a nursing home - not only for me but the staff as well! To all the staff - thank you for everything that you have done over the last 7 years or so.

Manley Court Care Home

from D R (Brother of Resident) published on 18 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My brother was admitted to Manley Court from hospital. Despite it being officially out of hours, he was accepted into their care. My initial anxiety about him going into care as a vulnerable adult with dementia and Down Syndrome, who was at the end of his life, was quickly dispelled. The staff were
very caring, and the home itself was clean, and did not smell of urine like others I have visited. He died peacefully and with dignity. Thank you to everyone from nursing to admin and cleaners. Especially the nursing team.
