The Hawthorns

from Carlos S (Husband of Resident) published on 8 January 2026
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
I feel that the standards have fallen over the last six months. I have the highest praise for all the staff and find their dedication exceptional. I attend Hawthorns daily & notice staff shortages on a regular basis I have been told the ratio of staff & residents is correct, unfortunately sickness,
holidays and training don't understand ratios. Certain times of the day, they are constantly firefighting. Recently the situation has got worse as there is now only 1 toilet downstairs, the other is used for storage. My 2nd complaint is there is a beautiful conservatory waiting for a new roof and it is still the same since January, which means the only place to sit is the lounge. There is no quiet room for residents and relatives to talk and read. Also part of the conservatory could be used for storage.
Reply from Eva Trochim, Regional Director at The HawthornsThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate your kind words about our staff and their dedication.
We are sorry to hear about your concerns. Following your comments, we have carried out a full review of our staffing levels and can confirm that our home has not been operating short of our required ratios. However, we understand that the day-to-day experience is just as important, and we are always committed to ensuring residents and their families feel supported and reassured.
If you would like to discuss your feedback in more detail, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly. Please do feel free to get in touch at your convenience.

Croft House Care Home

from Craig M (Son of Resident) published on 8 January 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
My mother has been a resident on Blue Bell Ward since July 2024.
My mother has advanced dementia and has growing needs.
When my mother first moved in, the place appeared to suit my mother's needs.
It was quickly apparent the home was failing to meet basic needs for my mother and other residents
too.
She was loosing weight and her general appearance was not good.
I also feel her emotional needs we also not met.
All our concerns were presented in a professional manner and escalated upwards as and when required.
Problems continued and management / nurses were inept and changed on numerous occasions.
Social services and CQC became involved and many concerns were raised.
From my perspective the blue bell ward upstairs was a forgotten area.
After numerous meeting and change of management and staff the home now appears to have turned a corner.
Things are running much better and there is a positive atmosphere
Please keep it up for everyone's sake.
Thankyou.

My father moved to Kings Manor a few weeks ago - I am his eldest daughter. He has been treated with the utmost respect and all his needs have been catered for. He has been assessed for hearing and swallowing and he is back to eating normal food. He is a bit more chatty and verbalising well. The staff
are all very caring and respectful, also approachable. I'm very happy with his care.

Highfield Private Care Home

from D G (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 January 2026

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Generally very happy with the care my mother receives. The food is not always soft enough for elderly residents and there are issues with her being able to feed herself when in bed and the tray is not positioned so that she can reach her food. When peas etc are served it would be easier to be given
a spoon otherwise they are left on the plate. When put to bed for her afternoon rest I've noticed that frequently there isn't a drink within reach and, as getting her to drink is an issue, this doesn't help improve her fluid intake. My mother does struggle with hearing but she can read so it would help communication if the carers could use a white board or something else when she's just not understanding what is being said to her.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
During my Nan's time on the dementia floor she was well looked after by the amazing staff. The nurses looked after her very well and were quick to chase up any medical concerns with the doctor. Carers were very good with my Nan, asking us about her life and things that she enjoyed. All staff spent a
good amount of time with her and encouraged her to do the things that she was still capable of doing that she enjoyed. During my Nan's decline, staff were very empathetic and kept close eye on her to make sure she was as comfortable as possible, as well as supporting our family through a difficult time.

Overall, very good trusting staff that looked after my Nan very well

Booked in for Christmas meal with my sister, really good experience, all staff were as always, pleasant and attended well to our needs. A real effort was made on creating a pleasant and festive environment.
Food was really good, tasty; my sister's vegetarian option was well received too.
Special
thanks to Sarah (great meal), Genesi who orchestrated the event, Joanne who stepped in to help when needed, all to give the resident and their relatives a special time together.
Massive thank you to you all! Xx

My brother (Brendan) recently received respite care at Ashmead. On arrival he was depressed and talked repeatedly about wanting to end his life. Whilst all the staff were excellent I would like to mention three members in particular who delivered so much care to my brother in a gentle, respectful and
professional way that on returning home this evening he was tearful at leaving them and the care home but importantly was talking about wanting to live for many years to come. Sadly this is unlikely as he is terminally ill but his psychological shift to one of happiness was thanks in the main to Omotayo (nurse) & Kashif and John (carers). Another person who deserves special mention is Probha who touched Brendan's heart with her great kindness. Thank you so much to all the staff and management at Ashmead as today you really made a difference to my brothers life and deserve acknowledgement which is too often missed. Every aspect of Ashmead was excellent.

I can't fault the home in fact I would highly recommend it to anyone. Everyone's care goes above and beyond. My husband was there for 5 years until he sadly passed away this week. All the staff deserve to be thanked in every way, their dedication, hard work and compassion are a testament to them and
Helen's great management

My mother in law is in princess lodge, (Doreen) my name is Gail. They had such a lovely Christmas celebrations, the food was lush, residents got up and danced with care nurses, it was just a lovely atmosphere, there was a singer, she sang all the Xmas favourites, and Immanuel, nim, goergia, Gaby, Angela,
dan, Rachel, Marius, Margery, Natalia, Charles, Anna, are absolutely lovely caring support to me and my mother in law, 100%, would recommend this care centre xx

Knights Court Care Home has been a true blessing for my family. The staff are warm, professional and genuinely caring, always going the extra mile to make sure my mum feels comfortable, safe and valued. The home is very clean and welcoming, well-kept and filled with a positive atmosphere. We have peace
of mind knowing she is well looked after. I can't recommend Knights Court highly enough. It really is a wonderful place, with wonderful people. The manager is brilliant and really gets involved and knows her residents. A well-managed home and brilliant staff. You should all be proud as this home is outstanding!

I've being coming to Knights Court Nursing Home for over 1 year. Management is great, they deal with issues straight away, the staff upstairs are very good and very helpful. They make sure the resident is dealt with appropriately, food is of good standard, and good portioned sized. It's a very friendly
atmosphere and always a welcoming environment to be in.
Reply from Rita Aujla, Home Manager at Knights Court Nursing HomeThank you for the feedback provided. We endeavour to ensure our residents are cared for with kindness and professionalism. I will be sure to pass this on to my staff, who will truly appreciate your feedback

Woodlands is mums new and forever home. Mum wasn't coping at home but we didn't think she would settle in a care home. Initially in Woodlands for respite, every single staff member are amazing. They treat mum with the greatest dignity and respect. They genuinely care. I hope this is mums forever home.
I am 100% confident the care they provide is second to none, I no longer have to worry - 10/10 and more.

Have visited several times. My sister is at Brunel House & whilst she has no choice where she was sent after hospital release, it has worked out well due to proximity to her home & friends. Staff are excellent & on the whole caring & friendly. Food could be better. I have not rated activities or value
as I have no experience.
