I was in Mapplewell Manor today and I was so impressed with the staff in the home, a long time resident had died this morning. The staff all treated mum and I with compassion and love. Mum had lived across from this person and had come to know her very well. The ambience in the home today was dignified,
respectful and somber. I have witnessed the outstanding care this lady received. She was always comfortable and happy despite being bed bound for many months. The staff at Mapplewell Manor go above and beyond for all residents their care is outstanding and they deserve this review.
Reply from Karen Hugill, Home Manager at Mapplewell ManorThank you for your review and your kind words, especially at this difficult time. I couldn't be happier with the care my mum receives. From day 1 she has been incredibly well looked after, and it gives me such peace of mind knowing she is in a safe and secure environment. I feel at ease every time I leave knowing she is in capable hands. The entertainment provided is superb, there
is always something going on and entertainment lady really goes the extra mile to keep everyone engaged, active & smiling. It's wonderful to see how much effort is putting into making each day enjoyable and meaningful. I'm truly grateful for the support, warmth and high standard of care provided, it makes all the difference.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother has been a resident since July 2024 and has been looked after both with excellent care from carers and nursing staff.

The home is split into 4 units. Each unit has a lounge and dining area which we are all able to use. Activities are undertaken on each of the units and residents can also

be taken to another unit for entertainment. Entainment is provided by 2 excellent activities co-ordinators. External entertainers also attend home such as singers.

As a relative I feel it is like being a member of a big Abbey Park family. If you want to make a cup of tea for mum and I. I am free to do so. Also I am allowed to stay with mum at mealtimes and have a meal with her.
Also can visit anytime. Well done.

Reply from Tina Thompson, Home Manager at Abbey Park Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind comments we will be sure to pass these on to the staff I am pleased to hear that you are made to feel welcome when visiting mum and that your particular enjoy the activities

We are so thankful to the wonderful staff on Mill Unit (dementia unit). They are always so 'good' with mum and very caring towards us as well. Today they made mum's 96th birthday very special for her and us. We thank the kitchen and domestic staff as well as cares, chaplains and volunteers.
She tells

The staff at Abbey Park have done everything they can to help my Father, nothing has been too much trouble. Everyone is so friendly, knowledgeable and committed to caring for him as well as they possibly can. He has a cosy flat where he can potter around, making himself drinks and snacks as he wishes,
and he can join others in the communal dining and lounge areas for activities and meals, giving him both the freedom to maintain his independence or to join others whenever he wants. Management are approachable and effective, his care team, activities team & chaplain are caring & professional and everything is clean and tidy due to diligent domestic and maintenance staff who are on hand every day. Deciding to move a loved one into a care home is never easy, but we know with Abbey Park, we've made the right decision.

from L P (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 March 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Father has been at Hall Grange for 18 months now. We moved him to be closer to me.

He is very well looked after and all the staff are kind, friendly, respectful and patient with him. The food has improved since he arrived and his favourite of scampi is made especially for him.

The activities

programme is brilliant and the girls work hard to think of new things to do. Bingo, crafting, music, karaoke, quizzes, cooking and themed celebrations. Dad particularly likes cheese and wine and Fun Friday. There are drink making facilities for visitors in The Hub .

His room has a wonderful view of The Wilderness. There is a large patio and seating area for warmer days. The purpose built building is spacious, airy and full of light. It gives me piece of mind that he is well cared for. Any maintenance issues are dealt with quickly. The staff are a good support for me too. Thank you.

Reply from Abi Williams, Home Manager at Hall GrangeThank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear that your father is happy and well cared for at Hall Grange. Our team work very hard to create a warm and supportive environment, and it's wonderful to know that the activities, food (especially the scampi), and surroundings are making a positive difference. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we are always here to support both your father and your family.

What a difference a year makes! This time last year I was desperate to find a loving care home for my sister. After many searches within the local area we found Pennystone Court. In this last year my sister has been given the best care possible, delivered by the most loving people you could ever meet.
My sister is now very settled in a loving home from home. All her needs are delivered in comfortable, safe and secure conditions. She is able to enjoy a range of activities, or if so desired, spend quiet moments to reflect. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum moved into Horfield Lodge in March 2025.
In truth I was filled with worry about the move, for Mum and for myself.
After an 'up and down' first few weeks (for Mum and for me especially), Mum began to settle in very well. Her room is lovely and overlooks the Common. We furnished it to Mum's tastes.
The
staff are fantastic. I cannot speak highly enough of them. They have all been (and continue to be) fabulous.
Mum certainly has her favourites too.
The Lodge provides lots of entertainment. Mum is keen to join in but also happy looking out over the Common from her armchair. A chair she often sits in and completes her WordSearches.
Our family have only but high praise for the staff and Home itself. They always involve myself in anything regards Mum's care.
I feel that I can approach staff with any concern I may have.
We continue to be extremely happy with Horfield Lodge, but more importantly, Mum continues to be very happy living there. Long may it continue.
Keep up the great work !

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
As a regular volunteer at Stratton House it is always a pleasure to go in and lead an activity. The residents all seem very happy when I pop my head into the lounge to say hello before going elsewhere to set up. The staff are always helpful and seem very knowledgeable about the needs of the individual
residents, dealing with them with kindness and understanding. The residents known to enjoy my type of activity, as well as new residents, are encouraged, though not forced, to join in my activity which also makes my efforts worthwhile. I am certainly made to feel part of the Stratton House family.
Reply from Steve Hill, Home Manager at Stratton HouseThank you for taking the time to complete a review of Stratton House and also for regularly volunteering with us. All the individuals living in the home really appreciate the time you give. I am pleased to read you find the staff helpful and knowledgably about the individual residents and I'm proud you feel part of the Stratton House family. Thank you for all your support over the years and we look forward to more in the future.
