Review of Summerhill Care Home from A K (Son of Resident) published on 24 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Summerhill is a very good quality well run residential home for older people. The staff are professional, respectful and well, good fun! The low staff turnover is a testament to the quality but more importantly a real benefit to my mum's sense of ongoing stability and care. There are problems- the room are small, it's really hard for my mum to manage afternoon outside in good weather, and due to her deafness she is often (more) confused about what's going on or what has been said, discussed or agreed. In short, the brilliant staff are what make Summerhill great.

Mum spent just over 3 years here when her dementia got too much to manage at home. The staff are amazing and were accommodating to all the family whatever time of day we visited- always offering us a cup of tea and a smile. We never had any concerns over her care or the dignity she was shown and as eating became more difficult they were happy to make individual meals to support her. The staff felt like extended members of the family and we couldn't rate them highly enough.

Mum has been made very welcome. She has settled in nicely, is enjoying the meals, and is not having to cook for herself. Her room is lovely she has already made friends. The staff are fantastic - so caring and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. As a family member, it is great to see her happy and being looked after. I have also been made so welcome, and it is a pleasure to visit her.

Review of Cold Springs Park Care Home from David W (Resident / Service User) published on 16 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My wife and I have no serious issues with any aspects of the care we receive, there is empathy and practical care and support by all the staff. Our en-suite rooms are cleaned and tided every day with fresh towels/linen as required. The laundry services are excellent , used garments removed daily, washed and returned quickly. The common areas, are similarly kept immaculately. All the staff work as a team, they work together to help each other when emergencies inevitably occur. They are all well trained in the practical aspects of care which can sometimes be very challenging. It is done with kindness and often humour. We also enjoy well kept garden areas within and around the home, with a lovely range of flowers and shrubs to admire, and the views over the Lake District fells are spectacular from lounges and garden. Clearly there are issues that could be improved and we have a residents committee that can draw these to the attention of management, who do listen and act within resources.

Mam has settled in really well since moving into the care home. Staff are very friendly & helpful at all levels, when myself & family visit. The main thing for us that mam is happy, safe & well. With many activities to keep her entertained, loves to listen for tea trolley as all treats & meal are made on site & taste fantastic.

Mum spent just over 6 years at Winters Park Care Home. She was looked after so well. The staff are fantastic. The level of care and compassion the staff gave was above and beyond. The home itself is spotless and comfortable with a lovely communal space. What stands out is the dignity and respect shown to every resident. We're grateful for the kindness and professionalism shown by the entire staff.

My Dad lived at Cold Springs for the last years of his life and was so happy there. We cannot speak highly enough of Cold Springs Park and the incredible team who work here. During my Dad's stay, he was treated with nothing but the utmost kindness, dignity, respect, and genuine care.
The home itself is beautiful, spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming, but it is the staff who make it truly exceptional. Every single person - from carers to activity coordinators and housekeeping - went above and beyond every single day to ensure Dad was safe, comfortable, happy, and well-cared for. Nothing was ever too much trouble, communication was excellent, and as a family, we felt completely reassured, supported, and at peace knowing he was in such wonderful hands.
We can't thank you enough.

Kim.

Mam came into Winters Park 2025. When she first came in, she wasn't sure, but now she's loving it. The carers are absolutely brilliant with her, the cleaners and laundry ladies, she loves them coming to talk to her, also she's loving Dave the maintenance man, having a laugh with her. Nothing is too much for Winters Park.

Review of Cold Springs Park Care Home from Robert T (Relative of Resident) published on 28 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I have found over last year or so the care home does not meet the high standards it quotes upon housing a family member there . The staffing levels are shockingly low and in trained at all levels when you can actually find one often leaving residents long period of times to wait for the toilet . Lack of care is so below standard it's quite saddening . Dressig residents in dirty soiled clothes every time we visit . Lack of cleanses dirty and not cleaned to a high standard .. lack of personal attention when a resident requires special needs or clothing . Lack of professionalism within the management unable to bring any concerns as quite abstruse and rude to say the least . For £1800 a week I would expect a fat higher standard of care that they do not provide and in fact disgusted by the substandard care she receives here I personally wouldn't put my dog here better of walking the streets should be disappointed how they treat our senior citizens hold your heads in shame

Terrible care home lack of care to my grandmother and other residents. Spoke with social worker and the CQC of the terrible standards of this home. The care home are fully aware of the issues I have raised with them via email on numerous occasions.

Cold Springs Care home is a fabulous care home and I know my granddad is very happy here. He always looks really well and I know he is looked after to the highest standard.
He talks about how he is building relationships with other residents and how the staff really like him too as he's so chatty and kind. Staff treat him with respect.
The food is good and my grandad is being fed well. He always says he enjoys the food and eats plenty.

My granddad also really enjoys the keep fit activity classes!

Excellent! My mam has settled in really well here, all the staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. Visiting hours are flexible, even though I do visit around dinner time. The residents all seem to get along despite all the challenges around dementia. Both my sister and I are more relaxed knowing that mam is happy and safe. My rating of 'satisfactory' regarding value for money reflects that £1800 plus is obscene. Not a reflection of Winters Park in general.

I felt nervous about my mum going to live at a care home but when we found Summerhill and looked around, we knew it was the right place. She is on Buttermere and all the staff have all been wonderful, treating my mum with the utmost care and maintaining her dignity. The food is excellent and the wellbeing team organise lots of meaningful activities. The two ladies on reception are really friendly and helpful and provide a welcome environment from the minute you enter.

The staff in the dementia care are absolutely amazing. My father's cognition has declined as the dementia gets worse and I am so grateful that the team are so caring and mindful of all his needs. The seniors work so hard to ensure the residents are treated with patience, kindness and time. The whole team of staff (carers, catering, activities, housekeeping, maintenance and management) care about every individual (however cranky and troubled they can be) and know every resident by name. I can relax and enjoy my time with dad, knowing that he is in very safe hands

Elsie needed to come in for respite. We were struggling, but wow what a great home and staff. Elsie has just turned 100 years and the home went above and beyond. Doing a cake, food etc for the family (so Nana could enjoy). The staff are so very kind and work very hard. Always there to help with a smile. One lady has been so amazing, we went with this home because she was so nice and knowledgable on Nanas needs.
