Firstly, most of the Care Assistants and Nurses are excellent and provided good care to our friend but there are not enough of them. However, Management is shocking. Our friend had items stolen and police were also informed on a safeguarding issue when our friend was hurt. This was investigated and
dealt with internally and is recorded.
Phone calls are mostly unanswered at weekend and evenings. Current investigation ongoing involving money stolen from Reception, in spite of upper management trying to whitewash over it.
All of this has caused much stress and heartache. Sadly our friend has now passed.
If you are considering this place for a relative or friend, then I would advise to stay clear. There are other homes out there to consider.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are sorry your experience of our home was not to your expectations. Our own enquiries and those by external agencies have been undertaken in relation to the claim of harm and the area director is meeting with the friend next week to discuss the alleged theft though it is difficult to investigate when valuables are left at reception unattended out of hours. We are sorry calls went unanswered at the weekend; we will look into this matter as we were unaware there is an issue.

Dad was made to feel very welcome on his arrival after a 3 week stay in hospital. His mobility was diminished and he was treated with care and kindness at all times. The activities were interesting and varied. The food was tailored to his needs and he was helped to eat when needed. He was treated with
dignity and respect at all times especially in his final days. We would recommend Elstree Court to persons in this areas.

I have found all the staff to be very pleasant and kind, caring and helpful. Always willing to help and look after their patients. Since my husband has been in the home he has settled well and feels very comfortable. This makes me feel very happy and pleasant. When the situation arises for a family
member to go into a home it is a worry. I feel quite confident they are doing their best for him and all their patients.

Mum loves living at Elstree Court and she calls it "home". All of the care team are friendly to family and give excellent care and attention to mum. Mum had a health issue during the month and was looked after here until an ambulance arrived, was asked after whilst she was in hospital, and was collected
and nursed back at Elstree Court as soon as the hospital discharged her. She is doing so well just for being back in her "home"

My sister has been a resident in the Haven Care Home for over 12 months, she loves it there. All the staff go above and beyond in the care and welfare of all the residents (and also the visitors).
The meals they receive are always first class.
From the domestics to the carers to the nursing and admin
and not forgetting management we couldn't of chosen a better place for my sister to live.

My dad was transferred here from another care home in October this year. The difference here for dad is second to none. Dad is a very difficult person to care for but here, nothing is too much trouble. Every single member of staff shows such care and empathy towards him, giving him time and patience.
Everybody from management, carers, well-being, house keeping to kitchen staff, always have a smile on their face. They keep me updated and informed in all aspects of dad's care. I have finally found dad's forever home and would recommend Coppice Court to anybody.

Since my mum has been here, shes been incredibly happy. She loves all the staff and is always laughing with them. She spends time in the dining/lounge area eating and taking part in activities. The stimulation and the caring staff are why my mum has lived to 101. I have watched staff who put a gentle
hand on a patients shoulder or stroke a patients cheek. Just little things that make them feel cared for.

My brother is very happy here. All the staff take great care of him and give him a lot of attention. The activities are conducted Mondays to Fridays which is so good for my brother. The managers organise regular functions inviting family members with good quality entertainers. Visiting family members
are made very welcome and coffee/tea is made available. Probably one of the best homes in Eastbourne.

I was very worried about Mum going into a care home but we had no choice. We chose The Polegate because it was close to us. I really didn't need to worry because Mum said to me that it was the best thing she's done to go there. She loves the staff, she says they are wonderful and so kind. The only thing
she misses is having shepherd's pie, it's her favourite and it's not on the menu. All I can say is a big thank you, my mum is happy.

Coppice Court Care Home

from Ruth B (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 September 2024

A friend of mine who is 93 was on the ground floor (dementia floor). He was neglected in many ways and I witnessed a lot of inappropriate behaviour by the staff on that floor including the screening of a sexually explicit tv programme. His daughter also witnessed these things and we raised a safeguarding
issue with adult social care. This has been investigated and adult social care found evidence to back up our claims. This report has now been sent to HC-One and the CQC. My mum was also in the home on the top floor (nursing). The care in that floor is much better. Although money was stolen from her purse and this wasn't investigated by the manager. She should have reported it to the police and she didn't. The staff on the top floor work very hard and are often short-staffed and don't have much time to spend with the residents. On occasions, it has taken 20 minutes or more to answer her call bell because of this. A safeguarding issue has been raised with ASC with regard to the theft.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. Due to confidentiality, we cannot discuss matters raised about your friend, but we can advise any concerns were dealt with, and feedback was given to the family. It can take time for some residents to adjust to living in a care setting, especially those with dementia. It may also take us some time to understand residents as they may not be able to express their needs. A full investigation into alleged colleague conduct was carried out but there was no evidence to support this claim by the home or adult social care. Had this been raised at the time we would have been able to immediately deal with any issues. Our allocations system in the home means all colleagues work on both floors so there is no difference in the care provided only in the care needs of residents as one community is nursing and the other is dementia. We regularly have resident dependency reviews to ensure accurate staffing levels are in place. Police involvement was not wanted by the resident and her partner and as per contract we are not responsible for lost items, but we do have a safe for residents’ use. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you wish to discuss anything further. Due to yours and others valued feedback we have shared lessons learnt across the whole home which has enabled us to enhance the wonderful care we offer to all our residents.
