We had a lovely experience in the garden this morning. There was beautiful music playing in the background, which the patients really enjoyed, with some even joining in and singing along.
The fresh air made such a positive difference to my mum's mood, and it was wonderful to see her enjoying herself.
As always, the staff couldn't do enough for everyone - there are so caring, kind and attentive.

Simply the best. Thank you all for everything you do!

As a family, we were reluctant to put mum into care. We came across Highgate and from day 1, Mum & the family have been treated amazing. Mum is happy & well cared for, shes thriving, constant activities, treated with respect & dignity. We are kept up to date with any concerns staff have. Would highly recommend Highgate, everyone of the staff. Feels like friends now.

We put mum in Highgate because they had space for her at short notice. We never realised how lucky we've been, the home is spotless and the staff have been fantastic. All the nurses are really friendly and kind. A special mention for the events organisers who keep everyone amused and active. Overall no complaints five stars

Review of Kirknowe Care Home from S W (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Hazelbank, Kirknowe Care Home, for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion they showed my dad during the three and a half years he lived there. They cared not only for his physical needs but also for his happiness, dignity and connection with our family. They made birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions meaningful, helping us stay connected despite the distance. I was always kept informed about any changes in his health or care, and the staff took the time to explain everything with patience and reassurance. My sincere gratitude goes to every member of the Hazelbank team-not only the nursing staff but also the kitchen, housekeeping, laundry, administration and everyone working behind the scenes. Your dedication, warmth and respect gave my dad the best possible quality of life, and I will always be grateful.

Reply from Jacqueline Nelson, Administrator at Kirknowe Care Home

Thank you for your kind words. It has been a pleasure speaking to you over the years and your Dad will be greatly missed in the unit.

This review has been discussed with my mother. We are satisfied with the care home. My mother loves the conservatory where she has lots of space to meet visitors and other residents. She has settled into the routine following a disturbing couple of situations related to waiting times for staff helping her to toilet. She understands that there are other residents have similar mobility issues, and she needs to wait. My mother appreciates all the staff who help her. She is becoming more happy in her environment.

My stepmum has been welcomed into Highgate as if she has been here forever. All staff have been very welcoming, and the level of care given has been amazing. The only downside is the parking, but that does not take away from the amazing work that goes on inside the home.

Every day, the activity team provide warm and inviting daily activities to keep residents busy and entertained.

Review of The Village Care Home from Lesley K (Daughter of Resident) published on 20 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Mum entered The Village Care Home is December 2025 after a long spell in hospital as she was very unwell. The care and attention given to mum in this time has been exceptional. All of the staff are respectful, caring and very professional. Mum is eating and drinking well, she takes part in the many activities and she looks really well. The care is tailored to every individual resident which has made all the difference. I can't praise the people in The Village highly enough and I'm so grateful to them.

Mum initially went into care for respite and to review her care needs, but this ended up coinciding with my dad passing away.
The staff have been fabulous settling her into the home and supporting her through the transition to living there permanently, as it transpired she needed 24/7 care.
Initially, she looked a bit bewildered, but now she is constantly smiling and participates in all the activities.

The team at Highgate have made a very challenging time for us all much easier.

My mother-in-law went into Highgate when my father-in-law died. This was a very stressful time for my wife and all the family.
The staff have been brilliant. They have helped my M-I-L settle. She is constantly occupied, and the staff know exactly how to support her when she has a wobble.

Knowing she is safe and happy is such a relief to us all.
