Blakelands Lodge

from Kathleen C (Niece of Resident) published on 18 September 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My aunt has been a resident of Blakelands Lodge for several months now. I am very impressed by the standard of care shown by the staff at this care home. My aunt is naturally a rather shy withdrawn person, and has Alzheimer's. She previously lived in a flat in a retirement building and had limited contact
with other people, but at Blakelands Lodge she is encouraged to take part in many activities, has been on trips out and has made new friends. The high level of care she receives now has enriched her life.
Staff at this care home are always willing to do that little bit extra to make the residents' lives better. They keep us as relatives well informed, through phone calls, emails and regular reviews.
I honestly believe that my aunt's move to Blakelands has been thoroughly beneficial to her and has enriched her life, and also has benefitted me, as a person also getting on in years, and given me and my family peace of mind, knowing my aunt is safe, well cared for, and happy.

My elderly aunt lived in a flat in a retirement complex until May this year. However she needed more help with her daily needs, and Blakelands Lodge was recommended. After visiting Blakelands with my aunt, it was clear from then, that this was the place for her. The management and staff couldn't have
been more helpful and welcoming, and from the moment my aunt stayed for a 4 week trial, she agreed, this was her next home.
There are twice daily activities for all residents, and the staff at Blakelands go out of their way to include and encourage residents to take part in these activities. They include outside visits to forest centres, garden centres, etc. The staff are excellent in everything they do, and I feel reassured that my aunt is in a safe environment. The staff also give support to all us relatives in the same caring way.
I've been for meals with my aunt, and the food is excellent. The care home is bright and cheerful with so much going on all the time.
Thanks Blakelands.

The manager and her team are all genuinely caring and kind.
They took great care of Mum while she was in their care.
As a resident you are very well looked after, mum was assigned a designated person, who took time to get to know mums own specific care needs, but all the staff were lovely.
Milliner
house organised trips out for Christmas shopping, had entertaining events, like the Elvis impersonator in the summer.
All the facilities are clan and modern and the management are very receptive if you need to discuss anything.
Less a care home, more a very caring home.

The first time I visited my grandad I felt the atmosphere to be very calm and all residence appeared to be settled, including my grandad. The staff interacted with residents, treating them with care and respect which made me feel very comfortable for my grandad. The home was spotless and smelt very
fresh. I am happy with my grandad living at Ridgeway.

Dad has settled in really well. Staff/management encourage Dad to be involved in activities that he would never of done whilst living with me. Staff interact with Dad and they have friendly banter which Dad loves. The care home is always spotlessly clean and smells fresh. Dad is always treated with
dignity and respect and not forced to do anything he doesn't wish to do. Staff and management are friendly and approachable, lovely atmosphere. I am very pleased all round with the care and support provided. Thank you.

After reviewing numerous Care Homes for my mother who has dementia, I settled with Blakelands because it was so fresh, bright and the residents look content. The staff smiled and were chatty during our visits.
Eight months on and it was the best decision as Mum is happy, content & no longer lonely
sitting at home.
The first few weeks Mum found it difficult to settle but the staff we fantastic with her and so caring that she soon settled & found a routine that suited her. Mum loves the company of other residents & also the activities that happen each morning & afternoon, together with the summer walks & visits to the local garden centre.

Mum was discharged from hospital to Capwell Grange. This was the best failed discharge ever. Mum was treated with dignity and respect right from the word go. The team treated her with such care and attention, and they kept me informed all the time. Even though Mum's time at Capwell Grange was short
we were so pleased her final days were peaceful, calm and very well looked after. We cannot thank you enough.
