Review of Mugdock House Care Home from Gerry M (Son of Resident) published on 10 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mum went into Mugdock Care Home on the 2 July and whilst being absolutely sure it was the correct solution for my mum l was anxious as to how she would settle in. We visited the home and met with senior staff to discuss my mum's care and were very impressed with all aspects of the service. We followed the advice we were given on how we would leave my mum on the first day and visiting arrangements thereafter which allowed the staff to settle my mum into her new home.
To say that we are pleased with the service my mum is receiving would be an understatement. The staff have been amazing and very quickly learned to understand my mums likes and dislikes. The staff always take time to talk with us when we visit which is testament to the staff resident ratio and the staff 's professionalism.

My mum has settled in well , she takes part in many activities, has been out on a number of trips already. She is more settled and lost the anxiety she previously suffered from and put on weight.

My husband was admitted to Mavisbank in June 2026 and I am very pleased with the care he is receiving. Kate and the staff are excellent - very caring and friendly and family orientated. No one wants to put their loved one into care but I know that my husband is safe and welll looked after and I will be contacted if there is a problem.

Any time I visited my aunt in the care home I was always greeted with a friendly face and welcoming conversation. I have found the atmosphere to be very relaxing. The staff are very attentive towards my aunt and seemed to take the time to have a conversation with her, nothing was ever an issue and they appeared to really care and know my aunt which made me feel at ease.

The home and her own room were always clean and tidy and importantly for me it didn't have that care home smell. The aroma of cooking was also something that was enticing.

As my sister had turned 65 she had to move from the YPD unit where she had been since moving to Castle View in 2022. We were concerned about how she would react to being moved from a familiar room to a new space. However the staff were amazing. Knowing my sister as they do they worked out a plan, took my input into account and put my sister first, ahead of any inconvenience to themselves. The move went better then I could ever have hoped and my sister continues to be very happy at Castle View.

I would like to thank all the amazing staff at Mugdock House Care Home for the kindness and loving care my Mother recieved over the past two years. She enjoyed her friendly chats with the Admin staff, cleaning ladies and caretakers. The Activity Coordinators were marvelous, ensuring interesting activities and social events were always available. The kindness and compassionate care my mum recieved from the wonderful Care Assistants and Nurses gave me the absolute confidence that my mother was very well looked after as her dementia progressed.

As the person am writing about is in a good place, well looked after and safe , the only downfall I have is the rooms could be doing with a makeover , ie could have there own shower , to make this easier for family to attend to there relatives.

I have been coming to Castle View for just under 3 years and I am happy to say the management and staff have been very good in the support and care of my mother. I feel confident that she is treated with respect and I am kept informed of any issues and that my opinions are listened to and that I can express any concerns without worrying that I am interfering.

Review of Castle View Care Home from Jim M (Son of Resident) published on 13 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mum loves it here. She loves the freedom to come and go as she pleases. She can go for a nap (which she always did in her own house) when she wants, and can join the other residents in the lounge for activities when she wants.
After a recent short stay in hospital she was delighted to be 'back home' as she called it.
The staff are very attentive to her needs and they keep me abreast of any health issues she may have. There is also a very good culture of learning within the home and focusing on creating a homely and friendly environment in which humour and banter are always high on the agenda.
The various activities keep her stimulated which appears to be helping her dementia stay at the same level.

She moved in 7 months ago and all our family thinks it's been a great move. She can now go outside easily in the good weather. As a family member I always feel welcome and I can relax knowing my mum is getting care of a very high standard.

My husband has been in Castle View for almost 6 months in that time my sons and myself are very happy with the care he is getting. He's clean, dry, well fed and cared for by the staff. If we have any problems or concerns we feel we can approach staff and its not a bother to them and the issue is dealt with. Because of this my sons & myself can relax and not worry about him.

I did not like the idea of my mum going into a care home. Mum worked in one and always asked me to promise I would not put her in one. I am very happy the way everybody has welcomed not only my mum but all of our family. Mum is thriving and now putting on some weight. All of the staff are very nice. Castle View is a really lovely & warm care home.

Review of Mavisbank Care Home from D R (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My mum was in Mavisbank for the last two and a half years of her life. She lived to just over 100, a remarkable age! She would not have reached that age without the great care and attention of all the staff there. It's never easy finding somewhere for someone you love who needs a lot of extra care and help, but I'm glad we picked Mavisbank.

My mother lived in Mugdock House for over 5 years. The staff turned her around. They gave her care, humanity, love and their professionalism was second to none. Each and every staff member helped her daily and she found a new lease of life in these years.

I cannot praise them high enough. Each of the team went above and beyond and cared for her beautifully at end of life.
