Mum was looked after so well during temporary respite care that she decided to stay. A very independent person, she needed some care after a prolonged time in hospital. The people at Queen's Manor give the utmost level of care and friendliness to all, residents and family. It makes such a difference
and is very reassuring that mum will be looked after as needed yet still able to do what suits her. Facilities are of the level of a (very) good hotel, the food is great too. Very quiet, nice gardens to wander around, handy for Edinburgh centre when needed, and hospital trips accompanied by staff if requested. Fun days out happen regularly for those who wish to go and fitness and other classes at QM are regularly on the agenda. If and when the day comes, I think we'd all be happy to move in!

My mother moved here six months ago and our initial positive feelings about Queen's Manor have only strengthened since then. She seems so comfortable and content, has made good friends and tells us frequently how kind and caring the staff are. She is encouraged to join in many of the activities and
seems to thoroughly enjoy them. As a family we can certainly vouch for the fact that she is being extremely well looked after and I am now able to relax and entrust her to Q M's care. My twice weekly visits to see her or take her out are a joy, enhanced by engaging with her new friends and the wonderful members of staff. The staff are exceptional and no matter what their actual job they are always happy to help.
Reply from Margaret-Ann Davidson, GM at Barchester Queens Manor Care HomeThe Team will be really delighted to hear how you feel: thank you indeed for your lovely comments and we are all very heartened to know that you and your Mother feel so well supported. We strive to do our best for everyone, and we're very lucky to work with such an exceptional team and our fabulous residents. Every day is a new day and is filled with fun and fulfillment!

Mum's stay here has been a settled and happy one, with many laughs. Her personality, determined character, love of animals, singing, and her quick quips have been embraced by everyone. There are many stories of funny antics either mum or the staff team have got up to with her.
There have been some
demanding periods too as mum's dementia progressed. However, all the staff have managed these times and helped her through them with knowledge, professionalism, patience and understanding, giving her companionship and maintaining her sense of well-being and humour. This has kept us reassured, knowing that she was with people that we trusted and genuinely cared for her.
Inside this beautiful home is a team of exceptional people with a deep sense of care, friendship and professionalism. They have all been so kind and supportive to mum and ourselves in their own special ways throughout her stay, particularly those work who work in memory lane who are incredible.
Reply from Margaret-Ann Davidson, GM at Barchester Queens Manor Care HomeThank you for your lovely warm and kind review - the Team will be delighted to read this and to know how you feel regarding your Mum's care and how well you were supported. It is our absolute privilege and joy to accompany all Residents and Families on their journey, wherever it may take us...

My parents were welcomed into Strachan House Care Home on Monday 27th April. They had visited this home before and have always loved it. The home has beautiful gardens and a very welcoming feel. The staff are very caring and attentive and friendly. The clerical staff are always there to answer any questions
and they really make you feel at home which is what its all about.

Mum moved in at the start of March and I have been so impressed with Strachan House. The care, diligence and positivity of staff, their dedication and support of residents and family members is exceptional. The team of staff communicate brilliantly with each other and families. The range of activities
and the beautiful, safe and clean facilities are wonderful. It made a heartbreaking decision less stressful, knowing she is safe and cared for by a very caring, professional team who help so much and support you at every stage. Thank you.

Our friend was a resident at Strachan House for 18 months. During that time he was treated with nothing but respect and friendship. He kept his dignity throughout his stay. We could not fault the care given to him by the staff in any way at all.

My mother became a full time resident in March 2025. Since then the staff have been extremely attentive and caring for her. They have also communicated regularly with me providing regular updates on her wellbeing - which is very helpful given I live some distance away.
Overall Queens Manor - and the
team there - have given me tremendous peace of mind when it comes to my mother's wellness.

My mum moved to Queens Manor in May 24 after having a number of falls and realising she couldn't live by herself any longer.
From the moment she moved in she was made to feel safe and cared for.
She had a lovely bright room with a patio and was close to the dining room and cafe area.
She entered
into lots of the activities on offer and went on outings with the other residents - she especially loved her keep fit session every week.
Her health deteriorated towards the end of 2025 - the staff continued to make sure she was very well looked after in her home surroundings.
She had a massive stroke which sadly proved to be terminal - she was able to stay in her own bed until the end and be cared for by staff she knew, with support from the on call GP and Marie Curie Nurses, who provided end of life care with compassion and dignity, rather than being taken to hospital.
I would highly recommend this care home

My mum moved into Queens Manor a year ago. The genuine care and professionalism of every single one the staff has been amazing. Mum has made genuine friendships, she's encouraged to participate in all sorts of activities but her privacy and wishes are respected at all times. Can't recommend highly enough.

My mum moved to Queens Manor nearly 3 years ago and it has been a successful move from her perspective and that of the family.
Her room benefits from the modern full length windows and she has access from her room on to the patio and into the well situated and secure garden.
She is able to join
in with the extensive social activities as she wishes.
We have gotten to know the staff who support mum and have full confidence in the care provided.
Margaret, the manager, is visible, approachable and has a "can do" attitude.

Our mum was one of Queens Manor's very first residents and she has always trusted and appreciated the care, humour and kindness of the staff who are very dedicated and knowledgeable. My sister and I have always been made to feel very welcome when visiting and the atmosphere is always cheerful and full
of purpose. In particular there is a feeling of mum's care being very genuine and professional, with everything being attended to promptly and us kept in the loop at all times.

My dad has been a resident of Strachan House, Edinburgh for 1 year. I chose Strachan House after looking at several others in the area. It has a very friendly, homely atmosphere and feels well run, clean and well maintained.
I enjoy my visits - staff are welcoming, friendly and kind.
I feel confident
my dad is getting good care. The nursing team keep me informed of any concerns - sometimes when I visit or by telephone - this is appreciated and I often get informal updates when I visit.
There is a pleasant, well presented dining room which is carefully set for meals- like a small restaurant - with table cloths, menu choices and flowers.
The residents sitting room provides a homely hub on the ground floor- residents come and go - they are not left isolated in their own room -There are daily planned activities including outside speakers, music events, pet visits + thete was a wonderful summer garden festival.
The residents rooms are small but can be arranged to suit the resident

I am a retired OT with over 30yrs experience & have high expectations of care needs for our clients. My mother has been awaiting a POC for 4 months then had a fall requiring hospital admission then the assessment identified she required 24hr care. I have found this very difficult especially as mum has
been unhappy with me & wants to be independent. I know that a POC & I cannot meet my mum's needs but the care home team can & provide a level of support, care & socialisation that is enabling mum to regain her confidence, sense of self & flourish. The team have been amazing with mum & her face lights up when she sees any of them, they have been so supportive of me & listened when I'm struggling.

My friend is in this care home and it is amazing. It fills all her needs, personal care, medication, helping her get dressed, she gets her nails done, her hair done, podiatrist, the food is like a 5 star hotel, there are activities every day, trips out to lovely gardens, coffee shops and place of interest.
The staff are excellent, very keen to help with anything that is required. I would highly recommend Barchester Queens Manor Care Home.

From the moment we visited Strachan Care Home we have been warmly welcomed.
Now six months after my friend moved in it feels like an extended family .
The atmosphere is full of joy and laughter.
The team are very supportive to residents and visitors alike.
The professional yet friendly up- dates
by phone are greatly appreciated regarding health or concern up- dates. This is even more important given the distance a relative needs to travel to visit.
We thank you all for giving us peace of mind that our Loved ones are being cared for in such a caring supportive manner.
