Mum looked round Sherwood Court with a view to staying whilst I was on holiday,
From the moment we arrived she was made very very welcome by all the staff. They were happy, courteous and respectful. She had an "at home" assessment to make sure her needs could be met which they could be (mum has mobility issues but is not suffering from dementia).
I dropped mum off before my holiday and again she was immediately welcomed by the staff. She was taken to her room which was very clean and well decorated. She settled in very quickly and throughout her stay she was part of the group of happy residents,

Thanks to the manager and all the staff she enjoyed her stay and I will be happy for her to stay again next time I am on hoiday

Reply from Elizabeth Brotherton, General Manager at Barchester Sherwood Court Care Home

Thank you for your lovely review, I am so glad your mum enjoyed her stay and you have peace of mind that she has a place she likes when you want another holiday. We look forward to welcoming her back

Review of Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home from Ellen H (Wife of Resident) published on 31 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
After 18 months at Sutton Grange, I have recently lost my husband to Parkinson's/Alzheimers.
The care he has received in the Woodlands Unit has been just amazing. Throughout this time, he has been so well cared for. As a purpose built home, the environment is lovely. The staff are brilliant and so obviously care for the residents, and, the families too. The food has been good throughout, even when my husband had to move to pureed food. The activities that are held are great, there is so much variety and lots of things happening.
Many of the families of other residents now feel like friends.
The care received during the 10 days that my husband was on end of life, the staff were amazing, it's hard to articulate the care he received and the empathy towards us. It was a very hard 10 days but made easier with the compassionate care he received.

The only frustration I had was items going missing, but on a dementia unit it's inevitable and I just changed my expectations.

Reply from Francesca Lally, General Manager at Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home

Thank you for your kind words and positive review. At Sutton Grange we do try our best to go above and beyond and it was a real pleasure to get to know your husband and give person centred care .The staff are amazing here and we like to think that we can make a difference whilst living with...

Review of Barchester Dovedale Court Care Home from S S (Daughter of Resident) published on 30 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

We have been really happy with the care my Dad has received in the few months he has been there. He has settled in well and feel the staff all know him well in a short space of time. The home feels very homely, a nice addition is the cafe for a change of scenery and we've enjoyed sitting in the garden with my Dad. All staff have made us feel very welcome and you can see the respect they have for all their residents. My Dad coming here has been hard for us all as a family as we live almost 2 hrs away and not able to visit as often as we would like. But we feel comfortable leaving him, as we know he is safe, settled and very well looked after. Since coming here I feel like ive gotten a little bit of my Dad back, which has meant everything to us all.

Reply from George Appleton-Carroll, acting General Manager at Barchester Dovedale Court Care Home

I would like to thank you for your amazing review. it is unfortunate that we are such a distance from yourselves however dad has settled with us here at Dovedale and appears content at the time. it is lovely to see you when you visit the home to see dad.

Review of Barchester Glenroyd from Hilary W (Daughter of Resident) published on 29 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Dad has lived at Glenroyd for over 3 years now. In that time, he has been very well cared for and is treated with dignity and respect.
After a decline earlier this year, Dad was moved to the nursing floor where he receives care that is more suitable to his needs, and the family was very thankful that he did not need to move to a different home.
The activities that are put on are second to none, and there is always something happening that engages and stimulates the residents.
The manager and staff at the home welcome feedback, and always respond positively and quickly to ensure that improvements are made where necessary.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Glenroyd to any families looking for a home for their loved ones.

Review of Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home from Gillian M (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Dad had an at home assessment on 30.6.26 and was admitted on 1.7.26... he had had a respite stay fairly recently. It was a textbook admission... he was welcomed, helped to settle ( as were us as his family) and in the last week or so nothing has been too much trouble for the staff team.
Everyone from from Tracy, Dawn & Louise as well as every other staff member has been so helpful and made it all about what Dad needs and more to the point, what he would like!
A small but typical example of the atmosphere & care was that yesterday evening 2 of Dads grandsons & a great grandson visited. Staff came to assist in getting ready for bed, saw the family and were totally accomodating, making them feel welcome and reassuring them they would come back whenever the visitors left. No pressure to get the job done! Small but important things.

Ive worked my whole professional life in adult social care so I feel very well qualified and experienced to offer feedback . Thank you all so much.

Reply from Tracy Catterall, GM at Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home

The team at Glenroyd have always been 5*. First in looking after my wife for 3 years in nursing care enabling her recovery to home, and now for my mother-in-law as a full time resident. The entertainment and activities for residents is exceptional. The photos and videos of events helps us to see our loved one's enjoying themselves even when we are not able to visit.

Laurely Bank has a lovely atmosphere and great staff. The staff make every effort to maker sure my mother is well looked after. Laurel Bank is a nice place to visit and I always enjoy my visits and interaction with the staff! Although its not an ideal situation for Mum being disabled the staff are great helping her to cope - of course its not perfect but in comparision to all the care home's in our area its the best by a mile!

Review of Barchester Glenroyd from Steven O (Son of Resident) published on 8 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
First and foremost my mother is happy and settled in Glenroyd and tells me she feels cared for and safe. She came to Glenroyd from hospital in February 2026 following an acute illness, until then she had been living in her own home with support of her family and a private care company. She was still in fragile health but the nursing supervision and dedicated practical care from all the care assistants at Glenroyd resulted in better health and mobility.
The atmosphere at Glenroyd is always cheerful and welcoming which reassured myself, my brothers and her family from the outset. Subsequently we have been further impressed with the professional standard of care delivered by Yvonne, Debbie and the whole team. There is a distinct culture of kindness evident throughout the staff team which has further deepened our confidence in this being the very best place for my mother.

A special mention for Aga and Karen who recently created a most marvellous 100th birthday party for my Mum and family.

Reply from Yvonne Hand, GM at Barchester Glenroyd
Thank you for your lovely comments. These mean so much to all the staff. Your mum has settled in so well, and loves to curl up on the sofa.

It is a pleasure looking after Ruth and getting to know her and all her family.

Review of Barchester Dovedale Court Care Home from Jon H (Son of Resident) published on 1 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Dovedale provides an environment and atmosphere that genuinely feels like "home" rather than "a home". The layout is thoughtful, with beautiful places to find quiet space and a change of scenery and garden space that is cared for and lovely to spend time in. The warmth and general atmosphere here is in no small part a result of putting together and leading an engaged resilient and long serving team of nurses, carers and staff who are directly employed. The use of agency and contract staff for cover is avoided and the vital nature of nurses and carers knowing the people they are looking after protected. Anyone who is experiencing this journey with a loved one will understand the relief that comes when the care they are receiving is good. In the Tesseyman suite at Dovedale it is exceptional and beyond any comparison. My Dad is the happiest and most settled I have seen him in a number of years. I hope that your care endures for My Dad and others and that those that need you find you.

Review of Barchester Glenroyd from Colby C (Son of Resident) published on 11 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I strongly recommend the Barchester Glenroyd Care Home to anyone looking for a genuinely personal, caring and sharing home either for themselves or a loved one. The rooms and building are all purpose built and designed around the needs of the residents. All are clean, well maintained, warm and welcoming. However, it is the staff that are the most important element of what makes the Glenroyd special. The staff are all positive, friendly and genuinely caring. Residents are truly treated as individuals, and time is taken to chat, to understand and even anticipate needs, and to help new residents become part of the wider community. Visitors are always welcome and feel able to stay for as long as they feel they need; and there is always a cup of tea and some cake on hand for them too. Moving a relative into care is never an easy thing to do, but the Glenroyd really has made it as good as it can be for my mother and I.

Since my wife went into Sherwood she has been well cared for. They provide her with care and dignity even though she is unaware. As a family we could not provide the support my wife needed at home, but Sherwood Court have stepped in and are looking after my wife in a supportive and caring manner.

Staff were amazing, very friendly & caring.
My aunt was extremely happy with her stay, and, she is very fussy.

Review of Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home from K D (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Dad started using Sherwood Lodge for respite nearly 2 years ago but became a permanent resident in October 2025 as his health started to deteriorate.
We were always made welcome and I always felt the residents and their relatives were treated as part of a big family. The staff are second to none - from the carers to the housekeepers, from the management to the maintenance team, from the admin staff to the catering team, nothing was too much trouble.

Sadly dad passed away in the home at the end of February but the care he received and the dignity with which he was treated was outstanding. We were able to spend his last days and nights with him as a family and what a comfort that was.

Reply from Tracy Catterall, GM at Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Thank you so much for you lovely, kind and appreciative words. Knowing that the time spent with your Dad was such a comfort to you and your family at such a sad time is all the thanks we need. It was a pleasure to look after Dad and support you all as a family.

Review of Barchester Laurel Bank Care Home from Anne M (Friend of Resident) published on 12 March 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

All the staff seem very pleasant, and genuinely fond of the residents, and give them good attention, at all times. The food is of high quality, although not always very hot. Jobs requested do not necessarily get done quickly - if at all. We were not the only people to request, on behalf of the person we visited, that her bed be turned through 90 degrees, so that it was under the window, but it never happened. Nor did the haircut asked for. Good care is provided, generally, but our friend did not seem to us to be sufficiently stimulated, so was quite isolated.
