Barchester Ouse View Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I had 3 weeks respite care at Ouse View after fracturing my leg and being immobile. I was very well looked after by kind and friendly staff 24 hours a day. My room had a lovely view onto fields and trees, with a comfortable bed.
I enjoyed doing activities with the residents in a beautiful lounge near
my bedroom.
There was a wonderful warm, friendly atmosphere everywhere. I have already recommended Ouse View to friends.

When we have raised issues with Nicky, she has been proactive and spoken to staff on our behalf. The permanent staff are nice and caring. However, the time between a patient pressing the call button and anyone responding - especially at night - is incredibly slow. Many of the contracters (non-permanent
staff) seem to have little to no idea what they are doing, which is worrying. But the permanent staff are good. There is a lack of consistency.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Our brother has been a resident in the Grange for approx 18 months. He is very settled here and has no anxieties or worries. This is in my opinion down to the way the Grange is run and staffed. Carers/cleaners and management staff are very caring and supportive of the residents and there are plenty
of activities for them. The main areas and rooms are kept in good order and cleanliness. There is a possible case for some internal bathroom doors to be replace due to age and moisture issues but nothing critical

My Step father passed away in June 2025 . We looked after my mum for a while at our home but it was evident that we couldn't provide the care mum required.
To say it hurt to even consider the thought of mum going into a nursing home was an understatement.
We chose Rivermead because we had been told
that the level of care was good.
That isn't what we experienced. It was well above good , it was exceptional
It is clear that all the staff take great pride in their work and are honest and kind .
Even when staff were dealing with the most difficult tasks I was in awe of how their professionalism shone through.
As the months progressed it was clear that due to mums ill health , mum was slowly getting less able to get around and her condition worsened.
Mum spent some time in hospital but we wanted her back home , back in Rivermead.
Mum sadly passed away but the care she received from the staff was more than we could ever have wished for .
Love to you all Paul , Helen and Beverley

Dad is becoming increasingly frail and following a fall my brother and I felt he would benefit from a period of respite care. On admission his mood was very low and his appetite poor. Although Dad's stay was only brief, by the time he returned home to Mum a week later there was a marked improvement
in his wellbeing, thanks to the wonderful care he received. It has been lovely to see Dad taking part in social activities, smart and well groomed, regaining his appetite, some spirit and his smile. The Threshfield Court Care Home environment is welcoming, caring and it feels very safe/ Every staff member we encountered was cheerful, kind, positive and happy (always) to answer family questions. If Dad needs more respite or full time care we will have no hesitation in approaching TCCH.

When visiting my friend my first impression I thought I was in a five star hotel, the tables were set out beautifully and glasses sparkling the residents looked very happy and I lookedaround I could see they were in safe hands. Tina was there for whatever they needed. The residents were well presented

Overall I'm happy with the care that my father receives at Ouse View. The care home is very well decorated and has nice welcoming lounges. The home is very clean and there are never bad odours in the communal rooms. I like that there is a coffee machine and cakes for visitors.
There are plenty of
activities for the residents. The dining room looks really nice. The staff are caring and friendly.
My father complains quite a lot to me about the food. He says it's average at best. On the menu it looks really good. I have tried to get them to improve the standard of the meals by taking part in a meeting on the subject and by answering the survey that they sent me and bringing attention to the food but my father still says it's not very good. This is disappointing considering the amount we pay. They have a French chef but he doesn't seem to be able to provide food to even a decent pub standard

While my Dad was only with Ouse View for his last 6 weeks, I cannot speak highly enough of the care he received, and the commitment, patience and support from the staff who looked after him. It felt personal - he was not just a number - he was cared for with dignity and empathy, by people who had taken
the time to know him. The facilities were clean, bright, welcoming and well maintained, and there was plenty of space to spend time with him. My thanks to all the staff involved in his care - it was very much appreciated.

Dad initially came to Ouse View for temporary care. Throughout his time there, the kindness, professionalism & thoughtfulness of the staff had a profound impact on us. They were supportive as we settled him in, quickly got to know us, & were always welcoming during visits. Communication was
excellent, with staff readily sharing updates when we couldn't be there.

The rooms, shared spaces & garden are comfortable and welcoming, giving us lovely places to spend time together, including enjoying meals and sitting outside. We consistently saw him & other residents treated with dignity, gentleness and respect, even in more challenging situations.

Unfortunately Dad's health declined & he sadly passed away while a resident. As entered his final days, the team provided exceptional end-of-life care, ensuring his comfort while supporting our family emotionally & practically. Their compassion, expertise & respect continued even after his passing. It deeply impressed us all & stays with us.

My uncle has been cared for in Leeming Bar Grange since Sept 25 when he was discharged from hospital. My auntie his wife of 66 years, is also a resident now.
Kathryn the Manager facilitated an expedited admission for my auntie to enable them to be together at the end of my uncles life. My uncle passed
away peacefully in the home, cared for, warm and safe. With my auntie by his side surrounded by attentive and caring staff.
From the supporting GP practice, management team /administration team all the fantastic carers, cleaning and catering staff, I cannot speak highly enough of their professionalism, compassion and care.
They take their time to get to know the residents as people and respect their individuality.
When you need extra support particularly when my uncle was end of life they could not have been more supportive and concerned for the families wellbeing as well as for the resident.
If you need anything at all, you only have ask. Thank you for being so amazing.

Threshfield Court is a warm and friendly place. They truly care for everyone not just the residents but the family and friends that visit. Lots of activities going on through our the year not just for the residents but for the family to join in too.

Very good experience. Always smiling helpful people around. The food was right for me but always a choice if needed. The activities kept me busy and happy mixing with other residents. The marking of options doesnt give justice to the care and attention in every way.

Barchester Dales Care Home

I have noted on several occasions that residents can be largely ignored while staff are on their phones. This is particularly sad for more lucid residents who are sometimes treated like naughty children. Today I observed 4 of 5 staff all on their phones (4:15 pm) whilst one resident repeatedly asked
to be moved near another resident so they could talk. There is little social interactions. Jigsaw I bought in months ago has never been touched (as far as I am aware). I wasn't going to complete the review, but was persuaded to by your receptionist.

Barchester Scarborough Hall Care Home

Mum moved to Scarborough Hall following a difficult few months in hospital and a nursing home following a fall. During that time she suffered terribly from anxiety and confusion. She moved to Scarborough Hall in October and what a difference! I cant believe how quickly she settled and how happy and
content she is in her new home. I can only put this down to the treatment and care she is receiving here. My experience of all staff has been very supportive attentive and frendly and I am confident that Mum's medical and mental health needs are being met. And the food is great too!! Thank you.

My sister was discharged from hospital to Mulberry Court following a sudden serious illness. She only lived 9 days. Everything about the home was great - staff, residents and visitors made me feel welcome The home was comfortable and above all the staff looked after her with care and tenderness.
