I visited several care homes looking for a short respite stay for my 98 year old mum. Boroughbridge Manor stood out with it's warm and kind atmosphere, friendly staff and creative decorations that were fun and interesting. Mum has returned a few times for respite care and I'm always impressed by the
genuine warm welcome we receive, the staff all knowing her name and chatting to her. I feel she is very well looked after, the room is bright and fresh and her comment on leaving is usually "it was all very good". Thank you to all of you for this wonderful care and support both to mum and me.

I went to visit an old friend at the Thistle Hill Care Home in Knaresborough this morning and was so impressed with many of it features and staff that I thought I would write a review.
All the members of staff I met were very very polite and helpful especially the nursing staff, the lady on reception
and the lady assistant manager. It seemed that nothing was too much trouble for the staff to benefit the patients and the visitors and everyone was looked after very well.
The buildings outside and gardens were kept to a very high standard and the premises internally were also maintained to a very high standard.
Having had parents who required nursing care later in life and having seen and been in many nursing homes over the years, the Thistle Hill Care Home was far and above the best I have seen.
Congratulations.

In other care settings it has been made clear that mum was now their responsibility not mine and they alone would make any decisions regarding mum's care. This is not the approach at The Dales.
The nursing staff discuss any concerns with me and keep me involved at all time. It genuinely feels like
we are working together in mum's best interests and they remember that she is still my mum and still care about what happens to her.
Mum is very reluctant to eat and drink but the staff have gone to great lengths to find foods which will tempt her (usually ice cream and bourbon biscuits). They have endless patience encouraging her and tempting her to eat. Mym could not be getting better care.

Mum was very happy and settled at the home and had all the care she needed when she needed it. Every we dealt with was kind, helpful, skills and went the extra mile to help her and the family. They made us feel like part of their family and at home. Mum loved the food and had some really special experiences
after being isolated for a couple of years she had fun and social times and loved the musical events - especially 'Elvis'. The home exceeded our expectations - well done team.

I have visited many care homes during the course of the last few years to see friends and family members. Rivermead is by far the nicest of them all.
It has a warm and welcoming reception area with complimentary tea, coffee and daily cakes for visitors.
The bedrooms are a lovely size and very cosy
and warm. The care is excellent and the staff are kind caring and very welcoming to visitors
Meals are catered in a restaurant style dining room with proper tablecloths and cutlery laid as it should be Standards are high which is rare these days.
The home is beautifully clean and does not smell in any way.
Having worked in care myself I know how hard it is to achieve this level of service. It is much appreciated by my family

My husband and I moved here recently from a care home in Wetherby. This is more pleasantly situated with a lovely garden. Generally, I feel the home is understaffed but we are treated with care and dignity. The food is varied and addequate but would be improved by the addition of well cooked fresh vegetables.
The rooms are clean and well fitted. Personal items from home are a welcomed addition. The activities programme is well run and all are encouraged to participate particularly in the musical events.

My Dad recently passed away at Mulberry Court Care Home after living there for 6 years. He arrived at the home in very difficult circumstances during COVID. He was very much cared for when there was restricted visiting and they looked after him when my Mum died in May 2020. Mulberry Court was very
much his home and he was loved by the staff. They treated him with dignity and respect right up until the end. I will really miss visiting because it is such a therapeutic, calm and kind environment. A huge thank you to everyone at Mulberry Court!

from Mary H (Wife of Resident) published on 8 April 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My husband was a resident from September 25 to March 26. Most of the care he received was excellent, but his mobility was not addressed. He could walk a few steps unaided when he arrived, but can no longer do so. He particularly liked the minibus outings. He was encouraged to participate in the
activities and entertainment, although the weekly activity timetable was sometimes more of a wish list than anything else. Laundry could, and did, go astray. I found a pair of knickers and a bra in one of my husband's drawers that were clearly marked with the owner's name and room number. The staff were all very friendly and caring.

I have stayed at Ouse VIew for three weeks, recovering from knee surgery. My wife is a permanent resident here. I have received veru good care and attention throughout my stay - in all aspects of the home: eg: reception and admin. room service meals, laundry and washing, cleanliness, entertainment.
The staff are always friendly, patient and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. They take a caring interest in residents with diligence and humour. They seem to like working here. I would gladly recommend Ouse View to anyone looking for a care home that is safe and friendly.

My grandmother was moved to this care home after the previous care home could no longer meet her needs. In the 6 months she has been there; as a family we have not been informed about incidents in a timely manner. No one is made to feel welcome when visiting. We visited over Christmas and no staff intervened
with a resident who was trying to leave the secured unit and myself had to try and help another family who were trying to leave get them back inside. Management do not seem to care. A phone call was made tonight and the nurse in charge could not answer any of our questions, and tried to pass us over to a senior nurse and they put the phone down.
Wouldn't recommend this home at all.

My mother-in-law is a resident at Mount Vale in Northallerton. It is a very welcoming and caring home. The staff are very attentive and approachable. She is very well cared for which gives the family peace of mind. The rooms, common areas, dining room and sitting areas are very well maintained and attractive.
The meals are wonderful. The activities for the residents are varied and most enjoyable. As a visitor to Mount Vale I am always made to feel welcome and listened to. It is an ideal home for mother-in-law and very convenient to town and activity centres and shopping. I highly value the placement at Mount Vale and highly recommend it for those needing a high quality care home.

Barchester Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband suffered the effects of a serious stroke in 2022. Since that time he has been in various establishments benefiting from rehabilitation. Last year he suffered a serious accident on top of the effects of his stroke. Since moving into Boroughbridge Manor he has received kind and patient care
from all staff. At times he has been frightened, frustrated and occasionally he has been awkward and difficult to deal with, but always he has received the utmost in quality care from all staff.
It has been a difficult four years for me personally, but now, since my husband has moved into Boroughbridge Manor, I feel confident to take a back seat and let the professionals deal with my husband. And for the first time in many years, I feel I have the time to heal myself.
All the staff at Boroughbridge Manor are kind and helpful but I can not finish without giving a special thank you to Jill (on reception) and Alex (head of Care)- they regularly go above and beyond what is expected. Excellent.
