My husband has been at Thistle Hill since August 23. His transition from the hospital to the care home was quite a struggle for my husband but through the wonderful and professional staff, my husband soon got used to it. My husband can be challenging but all staff handled him v v well. I feel that my
husband's room could do with a coat of paint and maybe a new carpet, but in the big scheme, that is not a priority. The management are delightful including the caretakers, kitchen staff and housekeeping who all work so hard. The grounds are fantastic with not much disruption due to building work.

Reply from Mandy Scott, General Manager at Barchester Thistle Hill Care Home

Thank you for your kind words, which I will pass onto the staff team. It is really nice that the staff get positive feedback. I can certainly speak with you and your husband regarding decorating. our Head of Maintenance man will be happy to help.

I cannot speak highly enough of my weeks respite stay. The facilities themselves were first class but it was the carers who stood out. Nothing was too much trouble. I was completely independent and did not require care but I was able to observe the manner of the staff towards the other residents and
it was above and beyond. Patience, compassion, empathy no matter how cantankerous the resident! The kitchen staff did their utmost to accommodate tastes too. No negative experiences at all, highly recommended!

Reply from Luke Owens, General Manager at Barchester Highfield Care Home

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We're delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience during your respite stay. It means a great deal to our team to know that their compassion and dedication stood out, not just in the care they provide but also in the atmosphere they create. We'll be sure to share your kind words with both the care and kitchen teams. We hope to welcome you back again in the future!

My husband died on March 29th after a long and painful diagnosis of dementia. This passing was also a long and often painful journey and I spent most of my day hours and some bad nights with him. The staff at Meadowbeck were amazing beyond words. I cannot speak highly enough of the tenderness and gentle
care given by one and all. They included me in that caring, helping me through this difficult and very distressing time and help me cope with my grief.

My mother in law stayed here for respite care and in her words it was like staying in a 5* hotel. She was very nervous about the stay prior to her going but afterwards admitted she was pleasantly surprised at how lovely everything was and how amazing the staff were. walking around the gardens. She said the food was varied and very tasty and that nothing was too much trouble.

Barchester Highfield Care Home

from S D (Respite Resident) published on 17 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

This is my third 'respite' visit to Highfield. Each time I come I appreciate the care and the comfort of the home. It is always an enjoyable experience to escape the responsibilities of living alone and the pleasure of having company are the main benefits I gain from coming here. Highfield is beautifully
furnished and tastefully decorated, surrounded by well tended gardens in beautiful countryside. Then to the staff unfailingly helpful and kind, nothing is too much trouble. At the weekend, shortage of staff with a lack of leadership, poor choice of activities will be sorted out. It very new. I enjoy the homely atmosphere and service. I will be back.

I visited my father just before lunchtime. I apologised for the bad timing. The staff made me feel welcome and suggested perhaps I could eat with my father even at such short notice. The wonderful staff sat myself and Dad down together and set a table in the conservatory lounge area. It was incredibly

Mum was moved to Rivermead Norton on the 14th February 2025 where she had a lovely room overlooking the garden and fields with horses, squirrels and a hen. The care was extremely good she was assisted with all her needs from bathing to feeding. After spending 7 weeks in hospital it was a huge relief
to the family so we could spend a lot more time with mum. We were made welcome anytime of the day so the whole process was made much easier for everyone. Thank you to all the staff.

My mother who had Alzeimers recently died. She had been a resident for over three years. I could not have wished for better care and support for her. not to mention the end of life support which was unbelievable. I could not praise the staff and management enough. It is very challenging supporting people
with alzeimers but they provided the care she needed. Despite her condition I believe she was happy at the home. This provided great comfort to her family.

Review of

Barchester Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

from E L (Friend of Resident) published on 3 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My friend was admitted after 2 months of hospital admissions and 2 care homes, which he's had to leave because of his dementia, though they had been informed of this beforehand. The welcome you gave to him and us was most warm and continued to be so throughout his stay: from the excellent, always so
calm receptionists, through all the carers, housekeeping and maintenance staff and cleaners, he was met with dignity, respect, warmth and professionalism. Early on a maintenance man encouraged him so cleverly to walk (he's just stayed in bed or on a chair in other places); near the end one of the housekeeping staff sat with him voluntarily and all the staff showed compassion and professionalism. And behind them all was an excellent, very caring manager and her team delivering everything. But we must talk of my friend's end of life care, which couldn't have been better. We were constantly informed about what was happening and were able to spend many hours with him before he died, and when we were not there we knew his treatment could not be better. Because of you all he had a good, peaceful death, culminating in the beautiful way in which you arranged for his body to leave. Thank you to all of you for everything you've done for our friend during his last days.
