Review of Barchester Bayleaf Care Home from Carole S (Friend of Resident) published on 30 July 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
Due to my deteriorating health I have regrettably had to give way to the advice of my GP and pressure from my family and friends to put my friend in a care home.
I have been looking after my friend since he was diagnosed with Alzheimers at the beginning of lock down so it was a very difficult decision for me to have to make. He took up residence at Bayleaf Care Home at the beginning of June. I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Bayleaf and inparticular for the manaher who has taken both my friend and myself under her wing and made sure that we have had the support we both need in a very challenging and emotional situation.
It has not been an easy transistion but the manager has made sure that we knew that we had the support of both her and her staff.

She has involved my friend in the activities she thought he would enjoy and has given me daily updates as to how he is settling in.

Review of Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home from Zoe F (Daughter of Resident) published on 23 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother was a resident for 8 years and the level of care she received throughout was exemplary. Mum initially stayed in the residential wing but as her health deteriorated she moved to the nursing wing. Her care and support were tailored to meet her needs at all times. She enjoyed day trips/activities in the early years and we often had a coffee/catch-up in the 'cafe' within the home. The support during the challenging period of the Covid pandemic cannot be faulted. Mum received high-quality care in the nursing wing and staff went above and beyond to ensure mum was comfortable. Questions or concerns I had were always treated promptly and compassionately. Mum's end-of-life care was managed with love, dignity, and kindness. In a world which sometimes appears to be full of cynicism and division, the staff are the very best of humanity and, in my eyes, true heroes. I will be forever comforted and grateful for the wonderful staff who are the beating heart of the Braeburn community.

Reply from Jane Lee, Acting General Manager at Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Mum was a pleasure to support and look after. We miss your Mum's lovely and kind hearted nature. I will pass this lovely review and comments to the team.

My husband was very well cared for and enjoyed the activities.

His main concern was The uncomfortable bed. He usually sleeps in a medium soft double bed so found the single bed with a firm mattress was painful for his spine and he was worried about falling out.

Review of Barchester Bayleaf Care Home from S E (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 July 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

From the start, I felt that Barchester was professional, but, more importantly caring. They quickly organised a show around of the home and I was welcomed warmly. Mum's care and comfort has been their priority from the outset. Mum didn't want to be in a home, but at 90 and with increasing needs, it was our only option. However, the team at Bayleaf always made it clear what was best for Mum and how they could make that happen. A month in, she seems settled and that is what we hoped for.

My mum went in originally from hospital as respite with the hope of going permanent. Mum is now permanent and although at first she was not happy to be leaving her home, understandably, she now seems to be settling in and even enjoying it. She loves the activities and the food (which she would not entertain at home or in hospital). I have not yet met a member of staff who is not pleasant and kind. They are all so lovely to mum and encourage her to join in with things. From the minute we walked in the door to look around the home we have been made to feel welcome. We are continuously told this is mum's home and we can visit whenever which is great. Mum told me yesterday that it is nothing liked she imagined it to be like and she now feels safe and looked after. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the relief I have knowing when I am not with mum there are lovely people looking after her.

During the three weeks respite care, after major surgery (hip operation) I was warmly welcomed; cared for with understanding and received help when necessary. Mealtimes were a time to look forward to, suitably prepared for all our needs by the excellent Chef. Whilst arriving in a rather fragile & nervous state, I very quickly started to feel at home and benefit from the personal care & everything going on around me: I have thanked the person who recommended me to you!

My dad is well looked after, the carers know his likes and dislikes and encourage him to participate in activities. He eats the food, usually a three course meal, but the carers will offer him an alternative if he doesn't want a particular meal.

My father has been at Hampton Grove for a month now and we couldn't have found a better place for him. Everyone has his needs at the heart of every interaction.

When i went to have an initial look around, the manager Stefan was able to answer all my questions and nothing was too much trouble. My dad is very well looked after. The staff are attentive, caring and respectful at all times. I would definitely recommend Hampton Grove Care Home.

My dad stayed at Melbourn Springs care home after my mum passed away. It was a particularly difficult time but all of the staff were fantastic.
Our first meeting was with Mia, who showed us round the facilities. She was so professional, knowledgeable and sympathetic to our concerns.
Dad has been cared for so well by Eddie and his team. They are always available to speak with and always greet us with a smile.
The events team, Anne and Janine work so hard to give the residents a variety of activities. They are so caring and mindful of everyone's needs.
The manager Vimukthika is very professional and although dad sadly needed to be transferred, she dealt with everything sensitively and seamlessly.

I would not hesitate to recommend Melbourn Springs. What a lovely care home.

On the whole this is a good care home, but it only has very hard beds so not for you if you like softness. The food is adequate and the staff are lovely. Really helpful and kind. It is a little "down market" with Bingo several times a week, but there are a lot of other occupations available. Unfortunately the garden needs a lot of attention which at present it is not getting. Could be very nice.
IMPORTANT. Needs handholds in shower - essential for safety.

STOP Lighting the "garden" at night. It is very bad for nature - plants, and the natural world. Also for the energy "crises"!
