Mum spent two weeks in respite care at Woodland View to recover from an illness. We are very impressed with the care and attention that she received. From the first contact with the home through to the assessment carried out in her own home and the friendly welcome that mum received, followed by the
most wonderful care, we could not have wished for more. All of the staff are amazing and thanks to them mum made a full recovery and was able to return to her own home in good health and with confidence. The rooms are spotless and well appointed as are the communal areas. We would not hesitate to use this service again

Mum has been under your care for over a year now. I am very happy with all aspects of her care. Being Picky, I would like a dressing table with chair for her to sit and do her hair & makeup at, rather than a stack of drawers. I have to mention Loretta, she puts her heart & soul into that place, and
is a fantastic asset to your firm.

Dad was here for 5 months. He absolutely love the place. He always laughed & joked with staff.
They were there straight away when he needed tending to.
The Home is very clean & welcoming with friendly polite staff.

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
My mother-in-law was at Pinetrees for 2 weeks last June. Her stay was not a happy experience for her. They were given clear verbal and written instructions regarding her medication requirements which were ignored. This resulted in her needing medical intervention on her return home. She needed help
with personal care which was not always forthcoming with one particular member of staff being rude, uncaring and very unhelpful.
She found it impossible to eat in the dining room as she was not made welcome by other residents and the staff did not intervene to help make her feel welcome. The food was barely OK and often served lukewarm. I understand food is brought in and not always prepared and cooked on the premises as they told us it was.
I have read other reviews and it appears respite guests get inferior care than other residents.
We received a letter from them with 14 apologies and a refund on our charges - this speaks volumes

My father fell and broke his femur in Pinetree while on respite care. An ambulance was called but family members found him alone on the bathroom floor. 3 months on and Barchester Group have not provided copies of their internal procedures for when there is a fall. As the staff ratio was 2 carers to
18 dementia patients on the 10th September 2025 , the policy seems to be leave them alone. My father died two weeks later. Poor reviews appear to be edited out as the family posted about this in October and it has vanished .

Rosemary has been staying at Barchester Woodland View for two years now. I visit as frequently as can be managed, but from a distance. I have to say that Rosemary has been very settled at WV, and we so pleased to be back after a recent hospital stay! On my visits, I have been most impressed by the friendly
atmosphere and the way all of the staff anticipate her needs, and seem to care a lot about doing what is generally a challenging job. Thank you!

Looks like it is going to be a lovely Christmas at Ashlar House. Decorations really bright and they have spent a lot of time and trouble. I am looking forward to the Xmas, jumper party. We will all be dressed up and my mum, who has been here nearly 6 months, is having a happy time enjoying all the activities.
Many music afternoons, and we can all join in dancing. She loves the painting, and I like helping. All the staff are lovely, caring people, always willing to help.

Mum has resided in Ashlar House for a month & the manager was very knowledgeable & supportive with her new placement following discharge from hospital.
The atmosphere is always very warm & welcoming. The staff are calm, kind & experienced in managing residents with a variety of conditions. The home
is spotlessly clean & Mum is always made comfortable by the attentive staff.
The facilities & lounges are bright & well fitted with comfy chairs, decor, activities, televisions & cosy ornamental fires. Visiting entertainers, hairdersser & chiropodist.
Meals are varied, home cooked & tasty & you can join your relative for a meal! The cafe in the reception area where visitors can have a hot drink, homemade cake or fruit - a lovely gesture.
The building is on one level, built with internal garden courtyards that give residents a nice view from their rooms.
Rooms are cosy & well equipped with en-suite toilet and basin for personal care.
I cannot recommend Ashlar House enough for 1st class care
Reply from Sharon Osborne, General Manager at Barchester Ashlar House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. We're delighted to hear that your mum has settled in well at Ashlar House and that her transition from hospital was supported with the care and reassurance she needed.
It's wonderful to know that our team's kindness, calm approach, and experience have made a positive difference during her first month with us. We take great pride in creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere and maintaining a clean, comfortable environment for all our residents.
We're also pleased that you've enjoyed the facilities, activities, and visiting services, as well as the opportunity to share meals together - family involvement is something we value greatly. Our cafs, lounges, and garden courtyards are designed to make Ashlar House feel like a true home, and it's lovely to hear that these touches have been appreciated.

My Mother is very happy and comfortable in the nursing home, she is dealt with dignity by all the staff, staff are all very friendly to residents and visitors. The staff also pop in to check on my Mum, even when she has not asked for them and wave to her as they pass her room, as she is bedbound, it
makes her feel not forgotten.
The new decor and carpets make the place look very welcoming and make the place look smart.

My stay at Woodland View was excellent. Everything was just perfect. The food was varied & delicious & catered for all needs. If an item was requested it was provided quickly. The staff were kind, efficient & helpful at all times although extremely busy at times everything was done with a smile. The
carers I found to be very professional & always able to assist, some more than others. The grounds & gardens are delightful & a credit to the gardner who works tirelessly looking after them. Management always available if needed. I thoroughly enjoyed my respite care & would recommend it all.
Thanks for all you did for me.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
I spent two weeks in Pinetree Care Home on respite care and considering the luxurious decor, sadly the care was not up to standard. The food and drink were very poor and frequently served cold.
There are not enough caring staff but those that I did see were very pleasant and did their best.
The
bedding was very poor quality.
There was only one real coffee machine on the ground floor and instead of a few expensive ornaments a coffee machine is required on each floor. Also not having admin staff in reception at the weekends meant residents and visitors couldn't get in or out without a long wait or a hunt for a carer.
The worst thing that happened to me was a young male carer opening the bathroom door while I was on the toilet and blatantly talking to me. I was truly shocked.

In the nearly five years my husband has been at Paternoster, we have had an overall really positive experience across all aspects of the care home, from staff to the facilities. Over the past 8-9 months, as my husband's health and care needs have changed, the staff, from management to nursing, caring,
cleaning, administrative support and maintanance personnel, have all been patient, kind, approachable and supportive throughout. They go above and beyond, ensuring that residents and their friends and families are looked after and catered for to a very high standard. This is what allows both the service users and their loved ones to feel safe and relaxed in the knowledge that they are in the right place to continue living the best life available to them in their time of need.

From the outside of the property I knew it would be nice inside as I had seen the property built on my daily commute. But the inside is better than I had anticipated. Every attention to detail has been thought of, decor, furnishings and ornaments of a high quality which make it feel like a 5* hotel
but at the same time very homely and inviting. The staff are caring and attentive with nothing too much trouble. My Father In Law is currently in respite but I do believe he will be back to Pinetree to live out the final chapter of his life, as will I when the time comes. I believe that Pinetree is not a care home, it is a home you can live and be cared for, but have freedom if you still want it. As close to perfection as you could get.
