My wife and I (and our lovely dog) visited the care home on the open day to visit two neighbours. We were immediately impressed by the staff and the feeling of care the were giving. We are both in our middle 80's, still fit and healthy but realise we may both need a care home in the near future. Dudwell
St Mary is definitely where we would choose as we live in the area.

Reply from Emma Rich-Spice, Senior General Manager at Barchester Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind review. It was lovely to meet you both and show you around the home and for you to spend some time visiting your friends. We look forward to welcoming you all again soon

I am a regular visitor to a friend and take her out to regular events as well as occassional special outings and medical appointments. Staff are always very welcoming and I am always invited to join in events + activities. The only problem is if we return after office hours there is a long wait to be
let in or for me to be let out after visiting.

Reply from Heather Nwansi, General Manager at Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home

Many thanks for your review. I am sorry that sometimes you have had to wait to be let into the building later in the day. The staff endeavour to open the front door promptly, but sometimes they may be busy with care. I will pass on your comments to the team.

Barchester Lydfords Care Home

from J B (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum chose to become a permanent resident during a recent respite stay. The whole team have done a wonderful job of helping her to settle, which has enabled her to develop lovely relationships with them and the other residents.
The staff from all departments; Hospitality, Housekeeping, Care, Life Enrichment,
Maintenance, Admin and Management really do work together as one team, which is reflected in the care that all the residents receive.
Lydfords is very much a community. The premises are well maintained with a homely feel. The dining experience is fantastic, the tables are always beautifully set and the food quality is superb, with a variety of choices for all meals. The chefs do an amazing job of the presentation, which is equally as fabulous as the taste.
The care staff are truly exceptional, delivering care that is personal to Mum. The level of communication that I receive is excellent.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lydfords and the team that make it a very special place.

I spent a week at Mortain Place after having a hip replacement. It was the best decision I could have made and the perfect way to build up my confidence and skills with crutches before going home. I felt safe, secure and looked after from the start. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their
friendliness and thoughtful care. It may sound like a small thing, but having them always use your name makes a difference. Visitors were made very welcome and there are plenty of informal places to sit and chat over coffee - and very good cake.
I will certainly be recommending Mortain Place. Thank you to everyone for getting me on the road to recovery so quickly.

My mum is a resident at Sycamore Grove and at first we were apprehensive but I can honestly say this was quickly put to rest. The staff are wonderful, very caring + treat the residents with great respect & dignity. The home is clean & the food is great. Family & friends are always made to feel very
welcome. I would recommend this home to anyone.
The management team are also wonderful & need to be congratulated on a brilliant home & its staff.

Every time I arrive I am given a cheerful welcome which comes through to all the members of staff I meet. The care and concern given to residents is excellent and the friend I visit has definitely benefitted from this cheerful + sociable environment. The management is efficient and smart, and keen to
build a relationship with residents and visitors. There always seems to be something going on to involve and entertain residents, with excellent organised activities and events. The rooms are comfortable and attractive and my friend has definitely improved since he came in and is well nourished too thanks to the cook!

A purpose built, delightful, friendly, caring home with an uplifting atmosphere and a focus on enriching activities alongside the normal daily needs of the residents. The carers are genuinely lovely, very capable & attentive. Mum especially warmed to her carers. Mum's initial 2 week respite turned into
6 weeks. It was unfortunate that she couldn't become a permanent resident, since we could not prove the 2 years funding required. Nevertheless, the lady in the office, did everything possible to advise and support us throughout the process & Mum's respite stay.
Would highly recommend to any family considering a care home for their loved one.

Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home

from S B (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Hazel Lodge has given my sister and I peace of mind after the emotional loss of our father and the huge upheaval of moving our mother out of her family home. It's such a difficult time when a loved one moves into care but the warm, attentive team at Hazel Lodge have put our minds at ease every step
of the way.
Mum's days are now filled with fun activities and companionship from the other residents and wonderful care team. We know she is safe and warm, and it's lovely to have her nearby again.
Family members can visit whenever it suits and are always encouraged to join in when the home goes to great lengths to mark special occasions.
Hazel Lodge stood out for us when it comes to the building itself - being purpose built it boasts spacious, light filled rooms and common areas, balconies off the dining areas and lounges, and a sunny, enclosed garden. Mum loves to spend time in the bistro on the ground floor watching people come and go whilst listening to the radio and drinking tea!

Our relative was at Mortain for just over 1 year. His increasing vascular dimensia was well cared for by the staff and he was overall content. We were happy with the support he received until his recent death with efficiently, and staff were very friendly to us when we visited. Although the costs were
considerable we are happy with the quality of the facility and the standard of care.

from S W (Respite Resident) published on 3 March 2025

Arrived at Hazel Lodge just a few days before Xmas until the New Year 2025. The first thing to say is how welcome I was made, next, we were shown to my room, which was clean and tidy as it was when we (my sister and I visited). Had dinner sitting with just one other person. In the afternoon after sorting
out my clothes, I spent sitting in the coffee lounge talking to the other residents. Upset a resident for the stupidest of reasons at supper time, and even so I enjoyed the meal. What I enjoyed about my stay was that there was something going on every single day, three times per day. Wonderful, because where I stayed last year there was Nothing. You only knew it was Xmas when your dinner arrived. All through my stay, I had good food. Good company. The staff, both carers and domestic were caring and friendly also willing to do anything (within reason) for me. The whole care home was clean, warm, and very friendly. And yes I would go back.
