Overall an excellent Care Home.
My husband was there for short term respite care, I was always welcome to visit, and joined him for a Sunday Lunch.
The food was very good, many choices, staff very friendly and supportive.
Always helpful, would recommend to others.
We both had a good experience.
Reply from Emma Rich-Spice, Senior General Manager at Barchester Sycamore Grove Care HomeThank you so much for your feedback of our service of which I will ensure is passed over to the team. We enjoyed having your husband with us and thank you for choosing us to be a part of our family. Hope to see you again soon.

The number of stars I've given in each category is not a reflection of the very good care I've received, but an honest acknowledgement that there is always room for improvement. There is a meaningful difference between good and excellent, and that distinction matters. The home itself is very opulent
and genuinely welcoming for both residents and visitors. A few small adjustments could create an even better environment, though these seem to relate more to corporate decisions than to the individual home. I will be meeting with a member of the management team to share my observations as a service user. Every member of staff has been a delight, consistently kind, considerate, and eager to accommodate me wherever possible during my post operative residency. I heartily recommend it.
Reply from Nancy Walford, General Manager at Barchester Port Manor Care HomeThankyou so much for your thoughtful words. It was wonderful having you in the "penthouse suite" you were the life and soul of Port Manor for your short stay, you kept the laughter flowing with your boundless energy. It was great to meet with you and discuss the small adjustments to the environment that you have recommended which we will of course pass on. Wishing you an ongoing speedy recovery, we are all looking forward to you popping back soon to see the Team.

We couldn't be happier with the care Mum & Dad have received at Wadhurst Manor. They are settling in really well, which is such a comfort to our family.
From the very beginning, the staff have been wonderful. Mohammed, the Home Administrator, carefully explained everything and guided us through the
process with patience and kindness. Catalin, the General Manager, was absolutely brilliant throughout - professional, supportive, & genuinely caring. The nurses & care staff are excellent & clearly dedicated to the residents' wellbeing.
The rooms are comfortable & can be personalised, which really helps it feel like home. A particularly thoughtful touch was the welcome card with lovely words, along with a complimentary voucher for a haircut - a gesture that meant a lot.
The home is always clean & well-maintained. We're truly grateful for the care and kindness shown to Mum and Dad and would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a safe, supportive environment for their loved ones.
Reply from Catalin Gyulai, General Manager at Barchester Wadhurst ManorThank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We are truly delighted to hear how well your mum and dad are settling in at Wadhurst Manor - it means a great deal to all of us. Your kind words about our teams are greatly appreciated. They work incredibly hard to provide a supportive, compassionate environment, and it's lovely to know their efforts have made such a positive difference to your family. We're also pleased that the rooms, personal touches, and overall atmosphere have helped your parents feel at home. Creating a welcoming and comfortable environment is something we take great pride in. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and for recommending us so highly. We are grateful for your trust and will continue to do everything we can to support your mum and dad.

My mum stayed at Hazel Lodge for a couple of weeks for a respite following an operation. The facilities are excellent and it's a lovely environment with plenty of social interactions in the dining room and lounge area. The staff were fantastic but a bit stretched at times. She would happily return to
Hazel Lodge should she need care support in the future.

Having made the difficult decision to move Mum into residential care, I was so impressed with the care offered at Hazel Lodge. 6 months on, I cannot fault it. The staff are unfailingly kind, empathetic and caring. There is always something on each day, with a clear focus on "use it or lose it." This
has kept Mum mobile and using her mind. Scheduled Dr's rounds give me reassurance that Mums medical needs are taken of. The food is freshly cooked and varied. Due to the onsite kitchen and chef, there is always something that Mum will eat. The grounds are lovely and everything is well kept.
I cannot recommend this home enough.

Hazel Lodge was my Mothers first stay in a care home and she was very apprehensive but she enjoyed her stay for respite, especially the food and an outing to Bexhill on the mini-bus. She said all the staff were very nice and very kind.

My aunt required emergency respite care and Mortain Place were able to offer that within an hour of my call. From the initial assessment, throughout the 2 week stay to when she left, my aunt was cared for by an amazing group of people who couldn't have done more for her. They were incredibly professional,
whilst maintaining a caring, personal and dignified approach to her needs. Unfortunately it became clear that she required more than residential care, but whilst myself and the family made alternative arrangements, they provided the best care we could have asked for. They even went the extra mile to wash her hair and do her nails, giving her a pamper session before she was transferred. Thank you all for looking after her.
Reply from Katie Brewster, General Manager at Barchester Mortain Place Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to provide this highly positive review. This is much appreciated by all our team here. I am so pleased we were able to enhance her journey by a stop off at Mortain Place for a few weeks. Take care and thank you.

I have been fortunate to meet many people who have already gone from being carers to becoming new friends.

Dad moved to Hazel Lodge October 2025 and settled in quickly. All staff are polite, caring and very helpful and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Hazel Lodge is beautifully decorated throughout and has a lovely garden. Dad is looking forward to the spring/summer when he can read his newspaper
outside.
Refreshments are always available in the bistro/cafe area, including home made cake available to all.
The food is excellent and the restaurant area is clean and very smart. Bedrooms are comfortable having TV and an en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower.
Hazel Lodge prepares a weekly activity sheet informing residents of activities during the coming week. They also have a mini bus to use for trips in and around the Battle area. I was so pleased, if not a little surprised, that Dad decided to join in right from the start! Feedback from management and staff on Dad's progress was most welcome.
I would recommend Hazel Lodge to anyone considering a care home for their loved one.

My mother spent over three years at Lydfords before she died in early January. I cannot speak highly enough of the care she received. The team of carers are exceptional as are all the staff who work there. The carers are all mostly full time so no agency workers employed. So friendly and approachable
nothing is too much trouble. The shared facilities are smart and it feels more like a hotel than a care home. Food is good and always beautifully presented. I have recommended Lydfords to anyone who might need a care home in the future! With many thanks to all.

My mother has settled very well at Lydfords and we are delighted with the care, compassion and professionalism of all the staff. They are attentive to detail and have listened to both Margaret and us in preparing for and managing her integration. Margaret has been encouraged and supported to join in
with all activities and, despite her misgivings, she is clearly feeling safe, secure and happy at Lydfords. We feel most welcome to visit and to raise any concerns or ask questions. All the staff are receptive and helpful. We are delighted with Lydfords!

Friendly greeting in reception. Most staff good, some warmer than others to Mum (& myself) A few 'really' understood/knew Mum. Those who did - thankyou so much. Motto 'tailored to individual needs' not always implemented. If residents are unable to speak up for themselves, they need a relative to speak
on their behalf. Even ie how Mum liked her tea - many times I politely said to carers, also spoke to nurses about it, yet rarely did Mum get tea to her liking. A little thing, but an important one to residents. Mum was there 4yrs. Management/nurses are happy to talk with you to try resolving issues, and discuss anything about your loved one. More carers on floor 1 would benefit for more time on individual care to be given, and talking. Value for money - satisfactoryish. Care/support/dignity between satisfactory/good. Sometimes excellent. Excellent activities - wide variety, excellent activities team. Lovely that housekeeping & maintenance teams interact with residents. High security, I always felt Mum was safe. Very good end of life care for Mum (& Dad) Both were in the right place. Positively, overall is good. Thank you Dudwell
Reply from Emma Rich-Spice, Senior General Manager at Barchester Dudwell St Mary Care HomeThank you so much for your feedback. I will ensure all the points raised within are fully reviewed to ensure that a better service is given. I shall also feed back. Huge thanks xxx

Barchester Port Manor Care Home is exceptional. All the staff are amazing, very friendly and caring. The food is delicious. It is quite amazing how good my Mum is with her walking now. We are able to walk along the sea front which would not of been possible before, Tatyana and my Mum went on the fun
bike along the sea front, they laughed so much.

Reply from Nancy Walford, General Manager at Barchester Port Manor Care HomeThankyou so much for your wonderful review, its fantastic that your mum is walking better since her move to Port Manor, our walking club "The Port Manor Plodders!" as named by the Residents, is certainly lots of fun, we are blessed to have such beautiful surroundings to get out and about in from the seaside to the wonderful South Downs. My mum came into Mortain Place in August 2025 and it's been the best decision we made as a family.
The level of care my mum has received has given her back the health, safety and dignity that her dementia was stealing from her.

From the moment you arrive through the door at Port Manor you are welcomed with the warmest smile and feel immediately at ease and made to feel at home. My mum has settled in so well to Port Manor, she is truly looked after in a caring and most friendly manner. The staff are a credit to this organisation,
nothing is too much trouble. The furnishings and decorations are so well thought out in residents rooms and all the other areas and I find it gives a sense of calmness. The dining facilities and food is very good and I like that we can book in for meals with mum at any time, again the staff are ready to help and help mum decide on what to choose. Christmas was a lovely experience with staff and residents making decorations and helping with making Yule Chocolate logs. I am so pleased we found this great care home and so happy mum has settled very quickly due to the expertise of the staff.
Reply from Nancy Walford, General Manager at Barchester Port Manor Care HomeThankyou so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review, I am so happy that as family you feel at home here, it's wonderful to know that the comfort and sense of belonging at Port Manor extends beyond the Residents.
