Review of Barchester Mortain Place Care Home from Paul B (Son of Resident) published on 21 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My father is now a permanent resident at Mortain Place having originally come for respite care. The decision to make residence permanent was made much easier by the standard of care that he received. The staff are, without exception, caring and kind but also fun. The ability to have a joke and laugh makes a great difference to the overall experience and makes what can be a difficult transition that much easier. A wide range of activities are offered ranging from days out to regular visits from therapy dogs.

Overall the care standard is excellent with a very good ratio of staff to residents and the facilities both in individual rooms and communal areas are also at a high standard.

Dick has come to Lydfords Care Home to give me a break for a couple of weeks.
The care has been excellent and he has been happy. He has been sociable here which he is not at home, thank you to all the staff for getting him going again. When he was unwell, the care staff acted professionally and with understanding.

Review of Barchester Port Manor Care Home from Sarah M (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 July 2026 Submitted via Website

I highly recommend Port Manor for respite care.
I had a holiday booked and was looking for somewhere for my parents to stay where they would feel supported but it would also feel like a holiday for them too. My mother had had some recent falls and ongoing mobility issues so needed a safe environment.
I was recommended Port Manor and the team certainly delivered in all areas. My parents didn't want to be in different rooms so Nancy the manager arranged for furniture/beds to be moved so they shared a bedroom and had a sitting room too.
My Dad still drives so they went out a few times but also enjoyed the various activities and facilities at the home. They loved the amazing food, friendly helpful staff and the beautiful surroundings.
We had only been home 2 weeks when they asked me when I was next going on holiday so they could back there again... a great recommendation in itself!

Thank you to everyone for making their stay special and they will be back in September.

Review of Barchester Lydfords Care Home from Laura S (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 13 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My dear father-in-law was cared for by the wonderful staff at Lydfords from February until may 2026 when he sadly died. They took such beautiful care of him, coaxed this shy man out of his room and into activities, laughed with him, took care of his every need and looked after him at the end. We so appreciate the care they took and how they looked after us. A wonderful hotel-like home, comfortable and clean, with a friendly, compassionate, good-humoured atmosphere. Delicious meals and fresh cake every day! Beautiful gardens and outside spaces. Thank you for everything xx

I cannot thank the team enough for the care and support they provide to my dad. From the moment you walk through the door, the staff are always welcoming, friendly, and approachable, creating a warm and comforting atmosphere for both residents and their families.
The carers genuinely care about the people they look after, and it really shows in everything they do. They are incredibly kind, patient, and attentive, always treating my dad with dignity, respect, and compassion. Knowing that he is in such caring hands gives our family great peace of mind.

The dedication and professionalism of the entire team are outstanding, and I would highly recommend this care home to anyone looking for a safe, supportive, and caring environment for a loved one.

Review of Barchester Wadhurst Manor from Keith D (Respite Resident) published on 15 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
I am just completing a one week of respite care at the Wadhurst Manor.

Being the first visit or stay in a care home, I had no idea what to expect while I recovered from a hip replacement. The care I received could not have been more appreciated. Being here for only one week (which was sufficient in my case) I was limited to how many residents I could meet, the staff were very caring and I never saw one who didn't speak to me and give me a big smile.

Reply from Catalin Gyulai, General Manager at Barchester Wadhurst Manor

Review of Barchester Port Manor Care Home from J G (Respite Resident) published on 9 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

I recently spent a week at Port Manor Care Home for respite care over Easter 2026. I was delighted with my room which opened onto the patio. The staff were very attentive and professional went out of their way to see you had all you needed. The food was excellent with a nutritious & varied menu served in a friendly dining room. There was a range of activities to keep you active and I was also able to have my hair done in the salon.

Review of Barchester Mortain Place Care Home from G B (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 3 June 2026 Submitted via Website

My mother-in-law moved into Mortain Place, Eastbourne from hospital in March 2026, she is 98 years old. She has settled in well. We have found the staff helpful, friendly and kind, they treat the residents like they would their own parents. The building is very well maintained, the facilities are first class and the rooms are spacious and airy.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Mortain Place.
