Overall Experience

My mother has lived at Barchester Bloomfield Care Home since November last year. She has changed from a withdrawn and lonely old lady into someone happy with life, joining in and making new friends. Her dementia has been supported by your staff so it has not been an isolating barrier but just part of being Mum. She is well fed and looked after and I am hugely relieved she is safe and people are there if help is needed. I hope she can have now quite a few years of a new, happier life. I have admired the professionalism but also the caring attitude of all your staff. Mum is in good company. Thank you for giving her some good years now.

Georgous location, close to local shops, light and airy rooms.
Air conditioning in the lounges & activity rooms excellent.
The staff are very attentive and looks after Mum extremely well, they are so patient & kind.
Liz the activities lady researches & delivers well thought out programs for the residents, including family members whenever they arrive.

For a new home their approach for elderly care is refreshing.

Unfortunately, my dad's dementia recently progressed to the point where his at-home care was no longer enough to meet his needs. Because he is still relatively young, he was incredibly nervous about moving into a care home.

However, the team went above and beyond from day one to ensure he felt safe, comfortable, and happy in his new environment. I cannot thank them enough for their support, I highly recommend both the wonderful team and the excellent facilities.

My mum (Margaret) recently stayed at Kingfisher for respite care. It was originally planned for 3 weeks but she enjoyed her stay so much it was extended to 4 weeks. From the moment she arrived, all the staff were so friendly, kind + caring. My mum is usually very quiet + not particularly sociable, but everyone made such an effort to include her and really brought her out of her shell. It was lovely to see her joining in + making some very special friendships with other residents. This was all possible due to the atmosphere + kindness of everyone at Kingfisher. Thank you!

What a lovely care home Darcy Gardens is. I really cant speak highly enough of it. The staff are so friendly and caring, and really made me feel part of their family. Nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately my husband passed away after only 5 weeks at the home but I am so thankful I chose Darcy Gardens for him to spend his last days. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff for their care. If I could give this care home 10 stars, i would.

Review of Barchester Darcy Gardens Care Home from Brian C (Respite Resident) published on 6 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My respite stay at Darcy Gardens was an excellent all round experience. All members of staff were attentive and caring. They always had my wellbeing as their No.1 priority, were very good at remembering my medications, which they administered at various times of the day. The food was imaginative, with the chef doing everything in order to satisfy most people's tastes. At no time did I feel alone, with a member of staff always being on hand to assist and I felt that I could always discuss anything of a confidential nature, leaving the overall impression that all staff were concerned with my welfare.
The on-site facilities are very varied, with something for all levels of interest.
My only suggestion might be for the development of a library area.

My overall experience of Darcy Gardens is one which I would recommend to anyone seeking respite care.

I did not think I would even need a nursing home but that day came in 2025. My brother was in a home and 2 days before he died I had a bad fall in the kitchen so was in hospital when it happened. My solicitors found Kingfisher Lodge for me, I'm so pleased they did as I have been very happy here and well looked after. My house had a very large back garden so I hope the people who bought it enjoy gardening

The entire team at Bloomfield have been fantastic since dad's admission in February. As a relative, the most important thing to feel is that dad is well cared for and the team fulfill this in spades. Everyone we have encountered is kind, empathetic, supportive and professional. This is the first time I have had any dealings with a care home, and this one has allayed every concern I had. My thanks to every one of them.

My father came to Kingfisher after lockdown having spent three years in another care home where he was very unhappy. He was here for 4 1/2 yrs. At Kingfisher from his first to his very last day we felt he was really cared for and part of a loving community. The Kingfisher Lodge manager is an exemplary manager and it is a testiment to her that the home tuns so well, the staff are caring and repectful of all residents. The home is clean and welcoming. We were very happy that my father spent his final years here in this lovely environment.

At first our mother struggled to come to terms with being in a care home, but now almost 1 1/2 yrs later is now settled and happier. The staff are very good and always something for them to do most days if they wish or always O.K. too if mum doesn't want to join in.

Mam has been in the Bloomfield Home for quite a few years now. But all I can say is she has been so well looked after since she moved in. Everyone on the Salisbury ward from the Bottom to the top staff, care for her with so much love. Rekha is one lady I will mention she always comes to talk to me and tells me about Mum.

Excellent care from carers, nurses, handy men, cooks, housekeeping, indeed everyone. The compassion shown by every carer is outstanding. They care for mum with dignity. They've wllowed mum to feel safe and she is building lovely relationships with some carers. Humour is part of this. The recent refurbishment is to a high standard and looks very stylish. Thank you.
