Superb care for my husband and my mind is now at rest. Knowing this I can visit at any time and always leave Alan in good hands. The kindness shown is wonderful and I am very grateful for this.

Thank you June for your lovely review. I am so pleased that you have taken the time to complete the review and are very happy with the care that your husband is receiving and that you have peace of mind. It is always lovely to have a chat with you when you visit and stay for lunch with Alan which I know he really enjoys dining with you. Thank you again

I have always found the staff friendly and helpful when visiting.
My friends room seems very cosy and homelike.

From what I hear and sometimes see there are some good activities available for the residents.

Reply from Paula Pearson, GM at Barchester Spen Court Care Home

Thank you for your positive review and comments. Our residents enjoy a range of activities that they choose and we are continually developing these of which residents voice their preferences at our monthly resident meetings which is wonderful in the activities been person centred.

My husband has now been in bed for 8 months and his care has been remarkable. Everyone is very kind and considerate with him and with me. I certainly couldn't manage him now.
Lately a minibus has come for me as I am wheelchair-bound, so cannot get out of the house without help in the form of using temporary ramps, which the driver (Andy) and his assistant have been happy to help with. Their company on the journey has been good and understanding, and Andy has tried route without many speed bumps. My husband's care and mine also is outstanding.

Well done everyone!!

Review of Barchester Spen Court Care Home from Julie C (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

After a hard decision we decided to put Dad in a care home for his own safety. We picked Spen Court and in the six weeks he was there until passing he was looked after with great care, compassion and patience. We were also looked after by the staff who went above and beyond. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them.

Reply from Paula Pearson, GM at Barchester Spen Court Care Home

From the moment we walked in the door, we knew this was the best place for our Dad. It is more like a hotel. The rooms are individually well decorated light and clean. The food is outstanding!

But most important the staff are like family members. They were ALL there for us every step of the way. The care and compassion showed to our family will never be forgotten - I would 100% recommend Spen Court to anyone.

I do believe the TV in the lounge should be on during the day I have visited my mother from time to time when no TV or radio are not on for redents. All residents just seem to sleep which I dont think it is good for them nothing to stimulate there minds there is activities but not long enough to keep them stimulated, my mother does like to meet other residents also likes to watch TV during the day so she dosnt like to sit in her room during the day

Overall Experience
I cannot speak highly enough of Barchester Cookridge Court Care Home. It is a truly beautiful residential home with wonderfully caring staff who go above and beyond every single day. Since my 91 year old mother arrived at the end of January this year, her health has improved immeasurably. The support from the carers, combined with the nutritious, home-cooked meals prepared by their brilliant five-star rated chefs has made such a positive difference to her wellbeing.

The whole team is exceptional, and it's clear how much they genuinely care. Tracey, Karan, Angela, and Precious are just a few of the amazing individuals who look after my mum with such kindness and dedication. Lynsey and Vicky have also been outstanding, helping me navigate what could have been a very difficult transition from independent living to residential care with ease and reassurance. For the first time in many years, I am able to relax, knowing my mum is receiving the very best care she could have ever wished for

Visited yesterday afternoon with a friend to visit a mutual friend we have known for over 80 years. I have much experience of care homes & was immediately impressed by the welcome at Spen Court Heckmondwike.
Everything appeared to be run with care & consistent.

Keep it up.

Review of Barchester Cookridge Court Care Home from A O (Husband of Resident) published on 26 March 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

It is a great relief and pleasure to me that my wife is in such a well-run, caring environment and that I am welcome to see her at any sensible time. She is very happy, and knows neither she nor I could provide for her needs without expert care. Whenever she has needed to leave the home for a hospital appointment or a family event that can be organised for us. The only slight weakness is that the lounge is not a sensible shape and size, but there's nothing the carers can do about that.

The staff were welcoming and made us quickly feel at home as my husband began his week's respite at Cookridge Court. He enjoyed the activities and commented on how nice the meals were. I enjoyed having lunch with him on one occassion too.
His room was clean and comfortable - he had a lovely garden view and appreciated that.

Our only concern was that unfortunately when we arrived home after his stay, another resident's night medication was in my husband's boxes too. I had to drive back with it.

My wife Valerie (Val) is a long term sufferer with Parkinsons Disease - it was becoming difficult to cope at home and a bad fall in June 2024 resulting in a broken femur and other falls following resulted in an agreed decision to seek care. We have been very pleased and this has resulted in a degree of independence and mutual benefit.

My mother in law moved into Cookridge Court recently and we couldn't be more pleased with the care she is getting.
The setting is really pleasant and the staff are easy to talk to and very willing to help.
The care she is getting is second to none and it's relieved the family's stress around trying to keep her safe

Thank you all at Cookridge Court.

Mum was a resident from October 2024. From day 1 she was made welcome and treated with dignity & respect. Nothing was too much for the carers, if Mum wanted something they would go above & beyond to accomodate her needs.
All Mums visitors were welcomed, made to feel at home and addressed by their first names.

We as a family had no worries about leaving her in the care of Spen Court.
